He couldn't save you. He tried so hard to save you but he was too late. He broke his promise. He promised that he would always protect you but he failed.
Your funeral had just ended and everyone had left,leaving Matt standing in front of the open coffin. He took a deep breath as he tried to hold back his tears,your face was pale and your lips were slightly parted yet you still looked like an angel to him.
"I guess you really are my angel now,huh Y/N?" His voice cracked and turned into a whisper. Clenching his eyes shut,he took your hand but quickly let go when he felt how cold they were. He wasn't used to feeling that. Your hands were always his favourite. They were always warm and he loved the feeling of them as you trailed them up his back or down his arm when you were bored. He loved how much smaller your hands were compared to his,he loved playing with them while you were sat watching tv or lay in bed talking.
The salty taste of his tears hit his lips as he reopened his eyes. He couldn't process it. He couldn't process the thought of waking up tomorrow without you by his side. He couldn't process the thought of you not skipping on hanging out with your friends just so you could visit him at work. You weren't gonna be there.
"Matt,c'mon we have to go" Stefan's voice rang through the empty church. Matt shook his head violently as tears began to fall rapidly.
"Matt,c'mon" Stefan placed his hands on matts shoulders but Matt just shook them off,turning to face him.
"No Stefan. I can't leave,she'll be on her own. I can't leave her on her own" Matt turned back to face the coffin but collapsed on the floor instead,stefan catching him just in time.
"She's gone Stefan" he sobbed as he stefan pulled him in for a hug. He didn't care if he looked weak or who saw him. He just lost the love of his life. His sobs echoed through the empty church and Stefan would have given anything to take away his pain but he couldn't.
"She's okay,Matt. She's good. She's with Vicki and I'm pretty sure both of them are gonna be keeping an eye on you"
Matt pulled away and stared at your coffin. His face was emotionless as silent tears fell down his cheeks.
"Let's get you home" Stefan helped him up and walked him out of the church. All the while Matt was thinking about how it was his fault. He was going to avenge your death,no matter how long it took him.
