CHAPTER 23;

“Bye Carly! Bye Jake!” I called as their cab pulled away from the school.

I watched as their cab drove all the way down the long driveway and turned left out of the school.

Three people gone three to go I thought. Tyler was leaving soon too, along with Amy and of course, Mr. Easton. I knew that Mr. Easton was leaving around lunch time and Tyler and Amy would be leaving very soon.

I walked back through the office and entered the school grounds. The grass was still muddy from the rain yesterday and it looked like a few people were getting angry about trudging through the puddles.

“This school needs paths!” I heard a petite blonde girl say to her friend.

I looked at both of them who were tip toeing across the grass toward the dining hall for breakfast. I wondered to myself if I would have time to eat before Tyler and Amy leave…probably not.

I sighed as I continued to make way across the grass. These holidays were going to be stupid. I’ll probably go crazy all by myself. I’d have to find a new hobby.

As I carefully made my way across the grass I didn’t notice someone in front of me until I ran into them. I looked up in surprise and saw Mr. Easton’s smiling face looking down at me.

“What are you so happy about?” I grumbled

“Morning to you too, Taylor.” He said, ignoring my question. “Why the long face?”

“Well where do I start…My parents ditched me, my friends are leaving, and you’re—“I said, stopping myself before I said to much.

“I’m what?” He asked, obviously hearing me.

“You’re leaving too.”

“Why is that a bad thing?” He asked with a polite smile.

Since when did he smile so much? Last time I saw him he was all quiet with me, what’s changed?

“Because.” I answered bluntly.

“Because…..?” He said, encouraging me to go on.

“Taylor!” I heard someone call from behind me.

I turned around eager to avoid the conversation I was about to have. Tyler and Amy were carelessly walking across the grass toward me as if they didn’t even care their shoes were getting muddier by every step they took.

I turned back quickly to glance at Mr. Easton who was standing there with an unreadable expression. I wondered what he was thinking…

“Hey.” I called to Tyler and Amy as they came closer.

“Hi, Mr. Easton.” Amy said

“Good morning Amy and Tyler.” He said politely giving them a small smile.

“We’re just about to leave, want to walk us out?” Tyler said smirking at me, obviously remembering what I had told him about my feelings for Mr. Easton.

“I was just heading to breakfast.” Mr Easton said to Tyler with a small frown, “But I hope you two have a wonderful holiday and I’ll see you in two weeks!”

“Thanks, you too.” Amy answered as Mr. Easton turned to walk away.

“Ready?” Tyler asked, readjusting the shoulder strap of his backpack.

“Sure.” I said sarcastically as I started to follow them toward the office.

“You’ll be fine for two weeks!” Amy reassured me as we reached the front of the school and stood beside the cab they were about to get into.
