Team (An Avengers Poem)

Hey everyone! So. This was also just posted on my Marvel Oneshots book, but I also felt the need to put it here, and you'll see why later. Also, endgame spoilers.

A man of Iron,

And one with a shield.

An assassin with strong round-house kicks, that is the best in their field.

A green guy that smashes, with his powerful, giant fists,

And a dude that shoots arrows, but can never seem to miss.

And then there's the god, with the golden blonde hair,
That swings about his giant hammer, seemingly without a care.

This is a team, call it what you will;

That will fight to the end, until the world comes to a still.

Some people call them crazy, believing them to be reckless fools,

But where would those people be now, without the heroes that they deem cruel?

They may be dysfunctional and damaged, and their failures uncanny;

But rest assured that this group of misfits falls nothing short of a family.

And over time they've assembled, their hearts feeling inclinded,

All with the intention of protecting mankind.

Yes, they've lost many times, in more ways than one;

But hasn't every family, before their lives have scarcely begun?

Sure, you can argue that they've killed just the same,

And murderers you may call them, but aren't you just looking for someone to blame?

Now, you may see me, stricken with shame,

Because really, you're treating this as if it's a game!

But it's not to most people, especially not this crew.

They're always prepared, and they always pull through.

They save trillions of lives, and they do what it takes,

Because they all know what it's like, to feel that horrible thing called heartbreak.

You bicker and shout, not wanting to wait,

"They're petty and revengeful, and they can't keep their heads on straight!"

I scowl and clench my fists, for you KNOW that you are wrong,

And there's no doubt in my mind, I know where you belong.

"They've died for you, you fool, but you treat them like dirt!

Yet without them, you'd be broken and hurt!"

"Here, let me show you, just exactly what I mean!

I'll tell you of their actions, that have often been overseen!"

"There's that time with Loki, you know, the green-eyed-god?

Still they stuck together, like peas in a pod!

Or that time with the robot, the one with no strings,

When threat became imminent,

They rushed to the scene!

Then there was Thanos, the one with that gleaming glove;

They lost to him, yes, but in the end it was resolved!"

"And where were we all during the course of their heroism?

We were scoffing at their actions, indulging our cynicism,

We were crying in the corner, sulking and mourning,

While they were off overhead, with a new plan forming!"

"Their friends have been brainwashed, and broken and shattered,

Yet in the end, hope was all that really mattered!

They've lost more than you could ever possibly know,

Trust me, I would understand, because I was one of those forced to let go!"

You stand tall on two feet and you're starting to see red,

You're determined to prove me wrong and reduce my passion to a shred.

"Oh yeah?" you counter with your fists tightly clenched.

"Then where were they those five years, while our fears were left unquenched?!"

"They were defeated," I tell you, no interest in lying.

"They lost those they loved, and that is a feeling worse than dying."

"But when they were ready, they got right back on their feet,"

"To prove to the universe, that history would not repeat."

"And here we are now, years in the future,"

"And their sacrifices, I can tell you, were most certainly not a rumor."

"They paid the ultimate price, and they gave it their all,"

"And they finally proved, that together, they would never fall."

You grunt and you groan, rolling your eyes;

Still totally convinced, it's been nothing but lies.

But through all of this, I can tell that you've considered,

And that my voice has been heard, and your thoughts have been littered.

"Whatever," you mumble, as you turn to walk away.

I grin to myself, as your weakness is on clear display.

While I know that this may not have totally changed your mind,

I can take a break knowing that you'll eventually leave those thoughts behind.

Like it or not, I have left my mark;

But what do I know? I'm only Morgan Stark.
