_______

I wake to the familiar theme song of a show I used to watch as a kid. I reach over and deactivate the alarm. I take a deep breath, adjust my pillows behind my back and sit up. I warp my arms around my belly. How did all of this happen so fast? It was just months ago that I saw Bruno for the first time after nearly ten years and now after destroying two relationships, making my mother angry and devastating my oldest and best friendship everything's a mess...what have I done? I take a deep breath, close my eyes and say a quick prayer. I pick up my phone and scroll through my missed hours of news feed on all mysocial media sites then I hoist myself up out of bed and look out the window.

The sun shines brightly down over the king palms and the skyscrapers among them. The sun sparkles with the shine from the polished cars the cruise along the streets. The weather appears to be back to what its supposed to be but looks can be deceiving. Just as a classic red Corvette passes, a couple crosses the street. She is wearing a peacoat with jeans and boots and he is wearing a jeans as well but with hoodie and boots instead.

I waddle to the bathroom and get ready to be presentable to the outside world; it hasn't seen me for a number of days. When I'm dressed, I make a breakfast of a vegetable omelette and a glass of orange juice. I knock back the my prenatal vitamins and swallow them with the last sip of juice. I walk back to my room and take my phone from the bedside and grab my purse from behind the door. I take a seat on my couch and turn on the news; looking on I take in the weather report to decide on a coat to wear. I leave the TV on, grab my trench coat and put it on. I check my phone once more: no new messages. I have to tell somebody what's happened because all I've been doign is over thinking and I haven't been able to sort my thoughts, I have to talk to someone. I hit my third speed-dial.

"Este," I say into the receiver.

"Menina(girl), it's been a little while. When did you get back?"

"About a week and and a half ago. I caught a flight a couple of days early."

 "How did it go?"

"It was rough; my mom is really angry with me." Este seems to sigh deeply then he clears his throat. "Mind meeting me at the coffee house?"

"Yeah, sure, sure. It's a good thing you called early actually. Lidia convinced me to go wedding cake tasting again this afternoon. We can't decide on what we want; she wants angel food and I want German chocolate."

I chuckle. "I can imagine the conflict."

"Alright, I'll be there in the next twenty minutes."

"Sounds good."

"See you," he replies.

Minutes later I'm waddling into the usual coffee house. My stomach protrudes more theses days and its significantly rounder than before. To accommodate my new body I've paired a cream colored oversized sweater with skinny mom jeans and brown riding boots. Looking down to the far end of the seating area I spot Este. He wears a black leather coat over a denim shirt and white tee with dark jeans and short boots; he seems to have been allowing his usual stubble to grow in thicker than before but it is still perfectly trimmed. He sits still glancing at down at his phone on the table. I waddle over to the table but before I can reach it his eyes shoot up to me. He stands right up and pulls out my chair for me; once I'm seated he pushes the chair in just close enough to the table, just far enough to leave my belly space.
