"Hello, you're speaking with Macy from Heartache Hotline. How may I cure you today?"

"Ello love, wanna cuppa tea?"

Giggling, I cover my mouth so I'm not too loud, "Your accent is horrible." I scold him.

"It's not that bad! How'd you know it was me?"

"Like I said, your English accent is horrible, Oliver."

"Damn it, I thought I was getting better."

My giggling intensifies, "You practice it?"

"Doesn't everyone?"

"Maybe."

"I bet you do."

"Maybe."

"You do! Don't you?"

"Maybe."

"What accents do you practice? English, Russian, Irish?"

"Maybe."

"Are you just going to answer 'Maybe' to everything?"

"Maybe."

Oliver sighs dramatically.

"Do you want me to hang up?"

"Maybe." I respond, holding in my giggle - that would ruin it.

"Okay then, I'll just go-"

"No! I was just kidding. You got me, I practice accents."

"Ha! I knew I wasn't alone here."

I can literally hear the smugness in his voice. "Yeah, yeah. So, did you call for a reason?"

"Oh... No. Did I have to have a reason to talk to you?"

My stupid heart flutters before I can tell it to stop. "Um, no. But I am working. I'm supposed to be helping people with their heartache. Hence the name of the hotline."

"You are helping."

"How? We're just talking about accents."

"You're making me laugh and distracting me from my loneliness, that helps. More than you know."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

"How old are you? Just out of curiosity."

"22, you?"

"20, almost 21."

"Are you doing anything for your 21st?"

"Maybe, I haven't decided yet."

"When is it?"

"My birthday is the 5th of July."

"Whoa, that's only two months away! Aren't you excited?"

"I guess but it makes me nervous because- never mind." I bite my lip nervously, having almost mentioned Jay.

"Because?"

"Don't worry about it."

"Okay but if you wanna talk about it, I'm always here."

"I'm pretty sure that isn't how this works. I think I'm the one who's supposed to do the listening."

"Have a break... Have a Kit Kat!"

"I love Kit Kat!" I exclaim, suddenly craving the chocolaty treat. When I see the time, my eyes widen, "Holy shindig, my shift ends soon so I'll have to end this call here."

"Oh... Alright then."

"See ya!"

end of call
