The early April sun shone weakly through the window as Gerard stood watching over his mate, he carefully ran his tongue over his sharp teeth as he thought about what would happen today.

The last few weeks of Daniella’s pregnancy flew by and the brunette ended up with several more broken and fractured bones, she knew that Gerard was struggling with the fact that his child was hurting her.

“It’ll be okay Gerard,” Cristina said as she stood next to the vampire, the couple had moved into the coven house so that they were prepared for not only the birth but for when Gerard changed his mate straight after the birth.

Gerard sighed as he looked at Cristina, he knew that she was right and that there was little for them to worry about but that didn’t stop him from worrying about his mate; he didn’t want to lose Daniella when they were about to become parents.

“I know… I just don’t know what I would do if I lost her,” Gerard said shaking his head, he didn’t know if he could raise the baby if it killed her; he knew that she would want him to but he wouldn’t be able to do it.

Daniella made a small noise of discomfort in her sleep as she moved to rest a hand on her bump, the baby couldn’t remain inside of her much longer and Gerard knew that it was going to be trouble.

Daniella couldn’t stop the scream that tore from her throat, she bit her lip as she tried to stifle the more painful cries as Cristina took her hand in comfort; she knew that it was time and she wasn’t sure that she could do this.

Gerard looked at Daniella concerned as he hurried into the room, he swallowed as he looked at Cristina; she smiled at him weakly as she moved to stand between Daniella’s legs so that she could deliver the baby.

“I’m going to die, aren’t I?” Daniella said softly as Gerard took her hand, he stared at her horrified at what she was saying he knew that Daniella was going to lose a lot of blood and that they needed to deliver the baby as quickly as possible.

Cristina smiled softly at the brunette, she knew that this wasn’t going to be easy.

“You are not going to die as long as you fight; you need to be strong,” Cristina said as she checked the brunette over so that she knew what she was dealing with.

Pep hovered by the door knowing that this could be the end of Daniella if something went wrong, he glanced at Gerard knowing that there was a chance that he would lose her today.

“Okay, first we’re going to need towels and Gerard you’ll have to stay so that you can turn her. Can you control yourself?” Cristina said softly as Daniella took her mate’s hand knowing that if she died then he’d be left alone with their child; she had a feeling that he would turn his back on the child if she died.

Gerard nodded his head at Cristina’s question, he knew that there was going to be a lot of blood and he had been slowly preparing himself for this day.

Daniella cried out as Cristina slowly started to help her with the birth, she closed her eyes as she tried to do as she was instructed and push her baby into the world; she bit her lip as the baby struggled inside of her.

However it seemed that every time that Daniella pushed the baby would trash around harder making it more difficult for them to deliver the baby in a way that would allow both mother and child to survive.

Cristina glanced at Gerard concerned, she didn’t have to tell him that Daniella was already losing a lot more blood than expected and if the baby didn’t come out soon then they were going to face one big choice; Daniella or the baby.

“Come on Dani don’t give in,” Cristina said as she tried to give the brunette a boast of strength as Pep set down some towel, he swallowed as he saw how much blood had started to gather before he hurried out of the room; he knew that it wouldn’t be safe to have any newly turned vampires around.

“I can’t so this,” Daniella cried as she shook her head, she felt exhausted and she wanted nothing more than to sleep; in the back of her mind, Daniella knew that this was going to kill her.

Gerard looked at her desperately as he tried to find some way of making this easier on her, he looked at Cristina who was focusing on the baby; he knew that he had to help his mate in some way.

“You can do it, just push as hard as you can,” Gerard pleaded as Daniella tried to find the strength inside of her to fight on but she just couldn’t do it, she shook her head as she looked at him sadly.

Daniella knew that she was going to die, there was no denying that something was very wrong and that once her baby was in this world that she wasn’t going to survive.

“I can't do this, I am so sorry Gerard but I can't,” Daniella said softly as she started to cry, she hated that she was going to leave him; she knew that he would abandon their child once she had died and it killed her that Gerard wasn’t going to look after their baby.

The baby trashed again as it started to get more distressed, it could sense that its mother was struggling and it wanted out; it wanted to help her in any way that it could.

“Cristina por favor… do something,” Gerard begged as he realised that Daniella wasn’t going to make it, his heart lurched as he realised that his baby was going to kill her; he would never forgive himself if he allowed this to happen.

Cristina blinked as she tried to think of what she could do, she had never seen anything like this before; normally the baby would rip its way out of the mother’s body if it couldn’t get out the normal way but this baby seemed determined to come out normally.

“I don’t know what to do Gerard,” Cristina said making him look at her, she swallowed as she saw the panic in his eyes as she tried to think of a way that they could save not only the baby but Daniella as well.

Gerard blinked back tears as he brushed some hair away from the brunette’s sweaty head, they needed to do something now if they wanted to save her; Daniella took a deep breath as she closed her eyes and started to push again.

Cristina stared at the brunette wondering what she was trying to do, she wasn’t sure what good would come if they delivered the baby like this; she looked at Gerard who sighed as he tried to help his mate as much as possible.

“Come on Dani,” he whispered as Cristina told the couple that she could finally see the baby’s head, the vampire focused completely on Daniella; he didn’t know where she was getting the strength from and he hoped that it would last.

“One more push,” Cristina said as she smiled up at the couple, she knew that this was only half the battle but she hoped that Daniella would be strong enough to survive the next part; the vampiress smiled as the baby finally slipped into the world.

“It’s a boy,” Cristina said as she quickly moved to cover the newborn while Daniella gasped as she collapsed back breathing heavily, she felt Gerard kiss her softly as he told her that he was proud of her; the brunette nodded her head exhaustedly knowing that the worst was yet to come.
