The Sunset's Lover

Staring at the stars of the morning

Twinkling to welcome her sleepy eyes

She sat on the hill of her dreams

Never wanting to come down

Though some thought she was crazy

Her mind a mess of strings

Tossed in the winds of her perspective

They blew in any direction she seeked

Coursing through the curls of her hair

Begging to be felt

To be touched

When all she wanted was to

Run and clutch the softness of the sky

Reaching for the morning clouds

Puffy just like her eyes the morning after...

After a night's rain

Whispering for the sunset to share the secrets of its gorgeous colors

Even though it sent its words through her hair

Telling of its strength to never fade

With a death each day in the wee hours

Of the morning

Startling her with its heartbreaking answers

Asking her to gently take off her mask

Bright fingers clawing at the remains of the identity she hid so easily with a smirk

Losing herself to be strong like the moon

Closing her hurting eyes

Waking only to the sound of the love of her life

Learning the things the trees

Tend to hide in the whispers of their

Falling leaves

Just like she was falling for you

Even the branches begged her to stop

The nonsense of her fighting heart

Secrets that are plain to see

Yet she begged to hurt your ears

She loved to make them ache

Just like she loved to hear the wind howl

A show of force large enough to make her stumble

Yet she knew that stumbling led to a bruise or two

But the marks showed her she lived

And she yearned to show the sun her scars
