Under the Stairs

She gazed at the grueling monster

Hidden under the rotting

 S

       T
                A

                           I

                                  R

                                          S

But sadly her intuition failed her

For she did not fear it, as it truly was

Even after gazing at its' ghastly eyes

Feeling its' soul-sucking venom
That took all of her

Leaving all the happiness to be treated upon

It creeped in the dark
Climbing the webbed walls of her mind
And screaming a warning
That it would take her all

It would show her brokenness

Like nothing she had known before

But her lover didn't have to reach for it

She handed her all freely

She trusted too easily she knew

For she had been warned

That monsters were real

But she did recognize the one

Standing in front of her fragile form

So when the monster suddenly turned
And where claws had once stained hardwood

Turning it blood red

With the souls

Of women whose hearts it had br ok en

No regret falling upon the handsome prince

That now stood tall before her
Seeing his gorgeous face

She never regretted ripping her heart

For she was blinded by his beauty

Holding it in her open hands
Asking for only love in return

And the prince
Took her in his hands

The most prized possession
And simply crushed it
With a tiny flex of his fingers

The pieces floating to the ground
Disintegrating

as they hit the cold floor

Almost as cold as his heart
And she cried in pure anguish
Seeing her prince change

Into a form she knew all too well

Just as the love she had disappeared
His false image sank away
Revealing what she had known

Was there all along
Waiting to sink its teeth into
Her fragile neck
So she just bared her skin
Relaxing, waiting for what
She knew had been her destiny all along
