Our roll of an immortal dice
Our unavoidable demise
The fates are never on our side
The stars are ruled by the lemon skies
It's not really any surprise
Our hopes and dreams are merely lies
Our spirit slowly dies
Our forsaken tongue dries
The wind's breath rots our eyes
The clouds taunt our dreamless sighs
It's a written disguise
Our flesh to shrivel and dry
Our rotten bodies left for flies
Our sweeping thoughts pass them by
I dreamt I heard and infant cry
But it wasn't a child, just the sky
The sun remains aloof up high
Burning our shredded skin, but why?
We crumble to ashes for the enduring sky
With nothing but a graceless sigh
Our mothers we beautify
Look above, the blinding lullaby
The sky will learn
To dance and prance
A sun kissed dance
The moon will never burn
So why do we yearn
For our breath to return?
Our sharp emotions roil and churn
But we live no more, and in turn
We're a monster that the heart will spurn
Still, I suppose you lose and learn
Ashes scatter on the restless breeze
We're anchored not by the storming seas
The sky is deadly, but if you please
For every lock there are some keys
Propriety swiftly flees
Our bodies' flight was impeded
By our solid mass, then superseded
As we crumbled to dust it was what we needed
To fly the lemon skies unimpeded

This poem came about out of a spontaneous collaboration with @the_same_me on the chapter Lemon Skies, so credit to her and thanks for letting me share this.

I just realised it's really near to the end of the holidays and I'm really sad.
