CHAPTER 12: A FOOTBALL CHALLENGE

All the kids line up and the tough boy, named Max, and I chose our teams. First I chose Alex and Max chose George. I chose Tom and Max chose Flower. I chose Luna and Max chose Julie. When we were almost there was only one person left. Alice. The name repeated in my head. I could see max didn’t want her on his team so I said,

“Alice, you’re on my team,” When we went out to Julies massive garden we divided it. I was walking and grinned at Alice. She grinned back.

Our game started by me and we scored the first goal.

Max roared, “YOU WIN THIS TIME BUT THE NEXT ROUND IS MINE….” He looks at the rest of his team and completes his sentence, “OURS I MEAN,”

I laugh happily and say, “Sure.” The next round Alice scored even though Max tried his best. There were 2 rounds left. He flushed redder than ever that I even asked,

“Want a break?” But he just violently shook his head.

The third round we won again. I tried to explain it wasn’t our fault.

But all Max did was, “How bout everyone becomes an audience and we play one against one.”

I stammer, “B-but what about the goalie?”

Max grinned a very wide smile. I grin back but I didn’t feel so sure about being alone against a guy older than me. I got shocked when I heard Julie, Flower, Melanie, Luna, Lily, Kate, George, Alexander and especially Alice shout out,

“YOU CAN DO IT LEO!” My cheeks flush a color of hot pink.

I say weakly, “I’ll try,”

Half the game was done and I couldn’t get a goal, everyone was watching, and half the people were gone only George, Alex, Julie, Alice, Kate and Lily were watching, the rest of the adults left were inside gossiping. Max had gotten so angry he just walked up to me and grabbed my throat and threw me to the ground. I struggled to get up. I heard people screaming and Max kicked me and all the noise was getting fainter into a faraway land. Black was all i am seeing.

I realized I’m having a blackout.
