~A couple weeks later~

I help Jaxon carry one last box to his car, shutting the trunk.

"That's the last of it." I sigh, wiping my hands together.

"Hey, it's not like I'm completely gone. Juliet and my parents are still here. I'll just be gone for a bit."

I take a deep breath and nod, "I know."

He leans his forehead against mine and laughs quietly, "Just one week and I'll come visit."

His eyes sparkle when he smiles and I repeat his words, "Just one week."

He connects his hands with mine and swings them gently, "I'll call every night and you better not decline my calls. I will get Ellie on your case."

I chuckle, "Or I'll just have my side guy answer it for me."

He raises an eyebrow giving a smirk, "Or you could do that. I would love to have some words with him."

He gives me a quick kiss before we hear the front door swing open.

"I'll miss you Jaxi!" Juliet runs past me and wraps her arms around his waist.

"Now remember what I said about the kids at school. If anyone bugs you, you know who to come to."

I cross my arms, "Don't mind him, if anyone bugs you, you come to me. I don't solve things with violence."

He glances up at me before kissing her forehead, "I'll see you in a week."

He makes his way to the driver side and she backs up, leaning on me.

I wrap my arms around her like a seatbelt and we both wave as he backs out.

She looks up at me and I smile down, "Do you love my brother?"

I brush her hair back with my hand, "Do you know how to keep a secret?"

Her eyes widen and she whispers, "I knew it."

I laugh and she starts walking back to her front door.

"Juliet!"

She turns back around and I grin, "Don't be a stranger just because Jaxon's not here."

She nods and salutes me, while I do one back.
I guess saluting is our thing now.

"Tommy?" I ask confused, darting down the hall.

It is way too early for me to run.

"Oh hey Brooklyn."

I shake my head, "I don't see you for weeks and all of a sudden you show up at my school without an explanation and all you can say is 'hey'?"

"Sorry. How are you?"

I punch his arm and he rubs it gently, "Jaxon said you had a habit of hitting."

"What are you doing here?"

"Well, considering my best friend goes here, I thought 'meh, why not'?"

I cross my arms unconvinced, "Your best friend moved, why are you really here?"

"Honestly, I thought I'd never find you in this school." Ellie appears from behind him and I raise my eyebrows.

"Okay, so maybe there was more than one person I wanted to see here." He puts an arm around her.

"Wait, are you two? Ellie! Why didn't you tell me?"

She shrugs, giving a shy smile, "I'm sorry, it's just, it was the last time you could spend with Jaxon before he left and I didn't want to take your focus off him."

I place a hand on my chest dramatically and pretend to wipe a tear, "That's really sweet."

"I know, it's pretty weird how soft she can be," Tommy leans over.

She pushes him and he pulls his eyebrows together, "Brooklyn, you're rubbing off your skills on my girlfriend."

I smile innocently, "I'm pretty sure it's the other way around."

The bell rings and he fumbles with his schedule, "I better go find my class. Talk to you guys later?"

I nod and he gives Ellie a kiss on the cheek.

I raise my eyebrows and press my lips together, staring at her.

"Shut up." She mumbles.

I wiggle my eyebrows and her face begins to turn red, "I'm leaving now."

"Bye sweetie!" I tease.

"Whatever butterfly!" She turns back giving a wink.

For once in a long time, I walk down the hall with confidence. It's so weird how just one person can change you so much. The way you talk, the way you act, and how you feel about yourself. Not only did Jaxon change me for the better, he also brought a new friend into my life, who happens to also make my best friend happy.

Sadly, the happiness doesn't always stick around. There has to be bad things that happen to make you realize the good things around you. Let's ignore that for now and just enjoy the good moments.

Not even I can even believe it when I find myself saying good morning to people in the halls. Giving them a smile here and there, confidently walking into my first period class with a huge grin on my face.

I should be sad knowing he's going to be gone for a whole week. I should be upset knowing someone's out there after him. I should be worried about him not being able to return. Instead, I smile at the memories I already made with him, and think about the memories to come. It's exactly like the time he left to visit Tommy, except now I know he's not going to be distracted by other girls.

As dangerous as it is, it feels so good to put trust in someone else. Someone who helped you become a better person, someone-

"Brooklyn, the answer?"

I snap my head up from my doodles in my notes and stay silent, thinking about how to respond.

"I'm sorry, what was the question?"

"Listening please," my teacher warns, looking back at the textbook.

I nod, opening my textbook and glance at the person next to me to see what page we're on.

Just one week.
