We toss the bags onto the counter and Stacey smiles warmly, "Now that wasn't so hard was it?"

Juliet and I exchange looks and act exhausted, "It really was," Juliet whines. "Honestly, it took out all my energy," I tag along.

She chuckles and places the slices of brownies in a platter, "Maybe brownies will help?"

Juliet immediately grabs one and shoves it in her mouth, "Yes please!"

"I don't need to ask you twice, now do I missy?"

Juliet flashes a smile and hands me one, "I can't eat the whole thing!" I joke, ready to devour it. Jaxon takes it from my hand, eating half of it in one bite, "Don't mind if I do!" He hands it back to me smiling at my reaction, which must've been funny considering the fact I was totally caught off guard.

"I said I couldn't, not that I wouldn't!"

He smirks and sits on the bar stool leaning against the counter.

"Someone looks like they got heart eyes going on," Stacey wiggles her finger at Jaxon and my mom chuckles quietly from behind.

"Mom!" He gives her a stern look and she does the same back, "Jaxon!"

"Here you two, I'll give you something easy to do. Here's a chocolate chip recipe. Go over to that table and try it." My mom points to the kitchen table and I take a deep breath, "Is that a challenge?"

Stacey raises an eyebrow playfully, "Maybe. Are you up for a challenge?"

Jaxon narrows his eyes the same way I do and grabs my wrist gently, "Come on Brooklyn, we got this."

I nod, following him to the kitchen table and look at the recipe.

"I need you to raid the kitchen for the bowls, I'll grab the utensils and ingredients."

We do a quick fist bump (cheesy, I know, but when you challenge me to something, things become serious very quick) and on with our journey we go.

"Are you capable of filling the bowl with 2 cups of flour while I crack the eggs?" I stop him before he can say anything else, "And I swear on our friendship, if you make an inappropriate joke about eggs, you will regret it."

He licks his lips, thinking, then gives a half smile, showing his teeth, "Friendship, aye?"

We keep eye contact for about three seconds before I become uncomfortable and motion to the bowl, "Flour."

"Like this?" He sprinkles it into the bowl and moves his hips.

I chuckle and crack the egg in a separate bowl, "Exactly like that. If there's no hip movements, you're obviously doing it wrong."

"Obviously." He scoffs, sliding the bowl toward me.

By the time we actually finish, I have flour across my cheeks and he has egg yolk dripping from his shirt. We may have had a little disagreement hence the mess, but I think we did pretty good.

I place my hands on my hips and watch as he slides them out of the oven.

"They actually look really good," Jaxon struggles to admit, "We make a pretty good team if I do say so myself."

He leans his head to the side, looking at me, waiting for me to agree. "Meh, I could've done it perfectly without you."

For one of the first times, I see him roll his eyes playfully.

"I see my sassiness is rubbing off on you," I tease.

He shrugs and crosses his arms, "Maybe."

My phone buzzes, ruining the moment, not that it was a moment in any way.
