"Brooklyn, may I speak with you?"

I close my math book, slowly looking up, "Oh yeah, of course."

I pile them and hold them tight to my chest, standing in front of my teacher's desk. "There's no easy way to put this, so I'm not going to sugar coat it."

I pull my eyebrows together confused and he sighs, "You're failing the class Brooklyn."

My heart drops, giving me a weird feeling in my stomach and I shake my head, "Wh- no, that can't be possible. I've done all the homework; I've even raised my hand in class." I raise my hand to exaggerate what I'm saying and show him the action in case he hasn't seen me raise it before.

"I understand, but your tests haven't been looking so good and that's really what adds up your mark."

I scratch the back of my neck, not being able to understand any of this, "But I've tried so hard. I've studied, I've put in effort-"

"I know, but it doesn't seem to be working. Brooklyn, I don't know how else to tell you this, but with the way it's looking now, I'm not sure I can even pull any strings and pass you with a fifty." He gives me a sincere look and my jaw drops slightly.

"There has to be something I can do. Extra assignments? Redo tests? Extra quizzes?"

He shakes his hand and taps my textbook gently, "That would be unfair to the other students. Studying is the only thing I can say that will help you."

"Sir, I've been studying and obviously it isn't working. Please, I'll do anything to pass just to show that at least half the effort I put into this class is credited for."

"I'm sorry Brooklyn, but what I said is final. All you can do is study harder."

"Sir-"

"Brooklyn, please, don't argue with me." He lifts his hand slightly from his desk and I take a deep breath, aggravated with the situation.

"Fine."

I lower my head and dart straight out of the door.

I push through the crowds of people and bolt up the stairs to my locker.

"I've been waiting here for like two hours, where have you been?" Ellie exaggerates the time she's been waiting while I forcefully open my locker.

"Hey, what's wrong?" She asks, finally realizing something's not right.

A lump forms in my throat and I feel my eyes water, knowing that if I say anything, I'll start crying.

My phone buzzes in my pocket and I quickly grab it, scanning my eyes over the notification. One new post on Instagram that Jaxon was tagged in. Almost instantly I open up the app, in hopes that seeing his picture will make me feel better.

Instead, it's the picture that makes me feel weaker.

I've determined that the guy to his left is Tommy judging by previous pictures posted and him mentioning him all the time.

It's the girls around him that catches me off guard.

It's one in particular that catches my attention. She has her arms slung around his neck from behind him and is squeezing his cheeks playfully, putting his lips in a kissing form. Her cheek is pressed against his temple and she's flashing a big grin at the camera.

I have to admit, she's gorgeous. Green eyes and long blonde hair. All I can say is she sure does know how to do her makeup and can for sure attract the guys.
