SCENE: EXTERIOR.
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: Where is that Argyle? I feel like I've been waiting behind this rock for a long time. Thank goodness the rock means that the guards at the gate of the Paradise Falls slaver compound can't see me.
SOUND EFFECT: SLOW SCUFFLING OF FEET
SLAVER #1: (WEARY BUT GRATEFUL. VOICES OF GUARDS ARE DISTANT, BUT EASILY UNDERSTOOD) Four o'clock already? I thought I still had an hour to go.
SLAVER #2: How was your shift? Nice and quiet?
SLAVER #1: Quiet? You mean you haven't heard? That Dashwood nuisance showed up here, trying to bust out Penelope. Thought he could scare old man Jurley with a mini-nuke
SLAVER #2: (LAUGHS) I guess Dashwood hadn't heard of our new ghoul employees
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: (STAGE WHISPER) They're talking about Herbert! Oh, how I wish I could hear them better! Maybe if I move just a little further. Not far enough for them to see me, of course.
SOUND EFFECT: MUTED RUSTLING
SLAVER #1: Well, whatever Dashwood might have heard, he's locked up safe and sound, now, in the cage at the back of the barracks.
SLAVER #2: At the back of the barracks? That must be interesting, given that Jurley also threw Penelope in there.
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: (ANXIOUS) Penelope? Do they mean my Cassandra? If I wiggle just a little further out -
SOUND EFFECT: MUTED RUSTLING
SLAVER #1: Yeah, well, maybe Dashwood will learn a thing or two about trusting - (BREAKS OFF SUDDENLY) hmm . . .
SLAVER #2: What's wrong?
SLAVER #1: Did that rock always look like that? Like there was a head growing out of it?
WILBERFORCE DASWOOD: Like there was a head – (GASPS) Oh no! They've seen me! I'd better make a run for it!
SOUND EFFECT: RUNNING
SLAVER #1: Wait a second, is that another Dashwood? Get him!
SOUND EFFECT: SEVERAL PEOPLE RUNNING
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: (PANTING) Oh, if only I could find Argyle, or a nice bush to hide behind, or (SUDDENLY) I feel so dizzy . . .
SOUND EFFECT: THUD
SLAVER #1: Did he just faint?
SLAVER #2: (DISBELIEVING) Yeah. I think so. Gosh, these Dashwoods sure are easy to capture! We're going to have a collection!
