SCENE: EXTERIOR. NUMEROUS VOICES, AND FAINT BUT RAUCOUS SINGING.
ARGYLE: Boss! Miss Chase has the key to let us out of this cage!
CASSANDRA: Hold on, let me just get this . . . (TRAILS OFF, PAUSES) What happened to this lock?
ARGLYE: (SHEEPISHLY) Heh, I tried to break us outta here. That lock is stronger than it looks.
CASSANDRA: (STRUGGLING) I can't . . . get . . . the key in.
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: Bend it back into shape, Argyle! Quickly!
HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (PEEVISHLY) And step right into whatever trap Penelope has set for us?
ARGYLE: It looks like the right key, boss. I'm going to bend the lock back into shape – looks less suspicious, anyhow.
SOUND EFFECT: METAL SCREECHING
FAINT RAUCOUS SINGING ENDS ABRUPTLY, REPLACED BY ANXIOUS VOICES, WHICH SLOWLY GROW LOUDER AS THE SCENE CONTINUES
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: Uh-oh, I think the slavers heard that! Quick, Cassandra, open the door!
CASSANDRA: (DESPERATELY) I'm trying! I'm trying!
HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: Trying to torture us, most likely.
SOUND EFFECT: HEAVY METAL DOOR SWINGING OPEN
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: You did it!
SOUND OF ANXIOUS VOICES IS BY NOW QUITE LOUD
SLAVER #1: Hey! What's going on?!
CASSANDRA: I – I – (SUDDENLY CHANGES TO AN IMPERIOUS TONE) You dare to question me?
HERBERT “DARING” DASHWOOD: (STAGE WHISPER, OFF-MIC) Let's make a run for it, men.
WILBERFORCE DASHWOOD: (STAGE WHISPER, OFF-MIC) But what about Cassandra?
CASSANDRA: (STAGE WHISPER, OFF-MIC) Go, Will! I'll be fine. (FULL VOICED, ON-MIC) Am I not Penelope Chase, Slaver Queen of Paradise Falls?
SLAVER #1: Well sure, but -
SOUND EFFECT: RUNNING FEET
SLAVER #1: Hey! They're getting away! Guys, come on, stop them!
SLAVER #2, SLAVER #3: The prisoners are escaping! They're getting away! Stop them! (ETC.)
SLAVER #1: Hey, wait a second. Why are you just standing there?
CASSANDRA: (NERVOUSLY) Who, me? No reason.
SLAVER #1: (SUSPICIOUS) You let them go, didn't you? Now, why would Penelope Chase do a thing like that?
END SCENE
