"Nandini. Why are you crying sweetheart??" He asks kneeling down beside her on the floor and clasping her face in his hands. She looks at him ,warily, but doesn't speak. He cajoles her, he is anxious, though he doesn't find anything odd happening that might have upset her " Babu, Tum btao gi Ni toh mujhe kese pata chalega ki problem kya h??"
Babu?? From where did this come? Nandini thinks. Perhaps he is not angry with me! She sighs and throws her arms round him and sobs into his chest.
" Manik am I being too much to handle for you?" She asks ,taking Manik by surprise.
" What made you think like that??" He asks perplexed " did I say or do something?"
"You haven't talked to me properly today and when I was coming to see you, cabir told me that I should give you some alone time. I was so tensed. I was waiting for you. I was growing anxious by every passing minute. You know how my nerves are these days. I thought you are angry with me. And this thought is very scary. Please don't give up on me.." she is interrupted by him.
" Hey , hey, Babu...It's okay I got it. But tum Rona band karo pehle. It's not good for your health. And now about your irrational fear, about me giving me up on you, I have said before and I am reiterating , you are like the breath I take, how can I live without you? You are worrying uselessly. I don't love you for just your body , Nandini, that you are pregnant and unshapely that I would leave you. In fact I am in awe of you that you are so capable , so as to bear a child in you, and you are doing it so efficiently. " Babu?? Hmmm I like it.
" But then if you are not upset with me then why cabir asked me to not disturb you?"
" I was a little pissed and he must be worried that I might explode on you" Manik smiles.
" Pissed on whom? And why??" She asks, sniffing, but feeling better now.
" It's related to work. nothing important. Leave that , let's go, I have a surprise for you." He hides his unease and distracts her.
" Surprise?? Where is it?" She is excited.
" For that you have to come with me." He reflects her excitement.
" Are we going out?"
" Yes"
" But Mukti..."
" I will manage that. You just get ready"
" But Manik it won't be appropriate to leave like that being the brother and sister-in-law...?"
" Nandini don't think too much. I want to spend some relaxing moment with you. Last few days have been quite taxing. Don't bring your idealistic bahu wala concept here. I am sure my family will understand." He says a little frustrated and her spirit dampens.
" Okay" she tries to placate him " what do you want me to wear?"
" I like you in whatever you wear" he says while going out of the door.
Hmmm...You have angered your man, mrs Malhotra! Dress well, so that only you are on his mind and nothing else.! ..... Nandini comes down wearing a dress but covers it with a coat.
