I wait until Riley's in deep sleep before I make my move.
I check the clock. 12:00 am. On time.
I slowly get up so as not to wake her. I don't have time to answer all her questions.
Besides, I know she'll convince me to stay.
I'm not gonna let that happen.
I slide out a duffel bag from under the bed. I've been preparing it while Riley's in school. Thankfully she never checks under her bed.
I open it to double check all the stuff I've packed.
Clothes, water, food (aka chips and crackers) and my phone.
I think twice and take my phone out of the the bag.
I'm gonna leave it. They might be able to trace my location if I had it.
I place it down on the bedside table.
I slip on my boots and wear my jacket. It might be cold.
But I know where I'm going.
I then unfold a piece of paper in the pocket of my jacket.
My note to Riley.
I carefully pace it under my phone.
I touch the ring on my finger.
If she wakes up and says ringpower, there's no way I can leave.
I look over my shoulder. Thank God Riley's a deep sleeper. I've always been a light sleeper. Ever since my mom and dad's separation.
I notice a tear drop on my shirt.
I wipe it away and clear my head.
I check everything one last time, then I walk to the bay window.
It's kind of cold tonight.
I pray for myself.
Then I step out of the window.
I turn back to get one last glimpse of my best friend.
Then I step into the city.
