Part 1: Maya

I can't take it anymore.
I sat in Riley's bedroom, waiting for her to come back from school.
This was already my second suspension this quarter.
I noticed a tear slipping out of my eye.
I wipe it away.
I wish she never pulled me back.
It was so much easier being her.
I got good grades, I behaved well, I didn't get suspended.
Now I'm back, and I'm even worse than before.
I purposely hit our PE coach in the head with a soccer ball, just because I wasn't able to score at least three goals and failed the test.
But of course, Riley passed with flying colors.
My thought train is broken as Riley steps into the room.
"Maya, I missed you so much at school today"
She sits down on the bed beside me and pulls me into a tight hug.
"Relax Riles, it's only been a few days" I try to say lightheartedly, but I know she knows that somethings wrong.
"Maya, you know you can always ask me for help, anytime you need it. I'll always be there for you."
"I know."
She squeezes me once more.
I pull away slowly and turn to her.
"Why did you pull me back, Riley?"
She stares at me in confusion and partly sadness.
"You were becoming someone you're not. The Maya I knew was disappearing. I couldn't let her just go away."
"But I was doing perfectly fine as you.."
"But you weren't Maya"
I look at the floor, wondering what the hell I did wrong.
Riley sighs.
"Look Maya, just know that I am doing what I think is right, okay?"
"Alright."
"And I will always, always, be there for you."
"Of course."
I try to smile.
"Everything's gonna be alright, Peaches" she tells me.
I don't think so.
