(Michelle's POV)

We were silently walking the streets, well I was actually following Ryan and who knew where he was going...

The sun already started to earlier than usual, which was surprisingly weird.

Ryan suddenly stopped in front of the cinema.

"So... want to catch a movie?" He asked casually, although he kept sneaking glances at me, awaiting my answer.

I rolled my eyes while a small smile crept on my face and nodded.

He sent me a knowing smirk, as if he knew something I didn’t. I opened my mouth to ask what it was, but then he pushed the glass door and held it out for me. Surprised by his gesture, I clamped my mouth shut and warily stepped through.

The queue was empty. I scanned the list of movies showing as we approached the counter; but just as I was about to ask his opinion on what movie we should watch, I noticed the decisive look in his eyes. Like he’d already chosen before we even entered.

“Two tickets to ‘The Darkest Hour’.” Ryan dropped the money on the counter, not even bothering to say please.

“Ryan, what was that?” I said in a hushed voice, glancing at the tremulous cashier fumbling with keys on the register.

“What was what?” Hair fell over his forehead as he leaned back, furrowing his brow at me. My fingers itched with the urge to brush it away, but I shook my head lightly to get the thought out of my head.

“You have to say ‘please’.” I whispered in a firm tone, like a mother scolding her child.

“No.” He stared at me incredulously. I gave him a stern look, and after a full minute I managed to convince him to be nicer; or at least, friendly to the nervous cashier.

“What do I do?” He leaned to the side, our shoulders brushing. I bit down on my bottom lip, trying to stop the bubble of laughter from escaping and the blush creeping up my cheeks.

“H-have a nice… movie.” The cashier finished lamely, handing our tickets and refusing to meet our eyes.

I jutted my elbow into his side. He reluctantly blurted out a ‘thank you’; it was so quiet that I barely heard him. But by the way the girl snapped her head up and offered a slightly relieved, shaky smile, I knew she heard it.

I took our tickets and walked calmly towards the corridor on the left; but on the inside I was beaming with pride. Behind that tough exterior of his, I knew Ryan was a sweetie at heart.

A large, warm hand closed around mine, pulling me in the opposite direction.

“Wrong way.” He chuckled lightly. I focused on our linked hands, letting him drag me along. My cheeks blossomed red, as I wondered if he was just as affected as I was. I mean, holding hands? Isn’t that what couples do?

For once, I was thankful for the dim lighting in the room. Or else he would’ve definitely seen my blush from a mile away.

As we sat down on the soft, plush seats at the back row, a memory clicked. The Darkest Hour… wasn’t that a horror film?
