I listened to the rhythmic pitter patter of the rain drops hitting my bedroom window. I found the sound relaxing and found myself drifting off to sleep. I was on the threshold of sleep when I mentally slapped myself. I was supposed to be staying awake. This was the fifth day of my holiday and I was bored to death. I'd slept for the first few days but I couldn't sleep my holiday away even if it was tempting. I needed to occupy myself and it was much too early to go Christmas shopping.

"I need something to do!" I yelled to my empty room.

The only answer I  got was the sound of the rain hitting my window pane. I smiled to myself.

"Great idea! I'll go dance in the rain…"

I jumped up excitedly and dug under the pile of clothes on the floor. I was pretty sure I'd seen my iPod under there a few days ago or was it in my laundry hamper? I found it under a pile of books and pulled on my wellies. I fumbled with my iPod's waterproof case before finally getting it in and running into the rain happily. I spun around in a circle with my arms outspread just like they did in those corny movies I just happened to love. I let the music wash over me and started dancing with my eyes closed. I was well aware that when I danced I looked like a panicked chicken, how I managed that I didn't know but I did it. At least I was safe in the knowledge that no one could possibly see me through the wall surrounding my house. By this point, I was well into my manic rain dancing. I jumped into a huge puddle as the song ended and opened my eyes to find a boy nearly fall out of a tree from laughter. I pulled out my earphones and stomped over to the tree. It was my neighbour's tree so I assumed that the boy in the tree was my neighbour. I gave him a moment to compose himself before asking,

"What do you think you're doing!?"

"What's it look like I'm doing?"

"It looks like some lunatic is spying on me and laughing his ass off in the rain while sitting in a tree like a monkey!"

"Firstly, I'm not a lunatic. If you can…play in the rain, why can't I?"

"I wasn't playing, I was dancing."

"Oh, is that what we're calling it? Looked like you had something on your back that you were trying to shake off while flapping your uh…wings."

"So I dance like a panicked chicken…doesn't explain why you're spying on me!"

"Pani…panicked…chicken!" he gasped out in choked breaths as he convulsed into fits of laughter.

"It's not funny!"

"You're right…It's hilarious!"

I huffed before I stormed away.

"Wait!" he called after me.

I swivelled on my foot only to hit my head on his chest and find myself sitting on the wet ground. I looked up at him angrily. He was unsuccessfully trying to cover up his smile.

"You think this is funny?"

"A little…"

"Just help me up please."

He stuck out his hand for me to grab hold and tugged me to my feet but he lost his footing and ended up on his back with me lying on top of him. We looked at each in silence before breaking out in laughter. I stood up and offered him my hand.
