Sharlene tossed and turned on her bed. She has not been able to sleep well for the past couple of days. The image of Jairus protecting her fall kept showing up in her mind. Even she couldn’t function properly whenever he’s around her. She would just feel nervous each time.

She then thought of texting her blog friend, Totomaries, whom she does not know he’s actually Jairus.

“Are you asleep?” she texted.

A few minutes later, she got a reply.

“Sorry. I guess you’re asleep. Goodnight!” she texted again.
“Sorry, I was in the shower. What’s up?” he replied.
“Help me!!” that’s all she replied.
“What happened?!!!” he replied right away.
“I can’t sleep!! =(“ she replied.
“That’s all?!!! Sus naman Gigi! Kala ko serious yung problem mo!!” He replied. He took a deep breath and replied again. “What’s bothering you anyway? You roommate got to you? In love with him already?” he joked.
“To naman oh! Hindi! He protected my fall the other day. I can’t seem to get it out of my head.” She explained.
“So? What’s wrong with that?”
She got to thinking. “I’m not sure.” She replied.
“AGAIN?!”
“I don’t know.” She replied again.
“That’s the same thing!”
“You’re not helping!”
“How am I supposed to find out what’s going on when you’re not even telling me anything?!” He was starting to get irritated just from a text conversation. “Sorry.. Ano ba kase?! May crush ka sa kanya?”
“No…” she replied. “I don’t think I deserved it. It was my fault in the first place kung bakit nangyari yon. If I didn’t try to get his phone from him, I wouldn’t have lost my balance and he wouldn’t have protected my fall.” Jairus didn’t really need an explanation as he already knew what she was talking about.
“I don’t see why you should be beating yourself up for what happened in the first place. Just accept the fact that there are people out there who are willing to help you even if they go out of their way to do so.” He told. “Good things happen to good people.” He added.
“Galit ka?” she figured.
“Huh? No! I’m just saying. You’re a good person! If I were him, I would do the same thing to you!” he explained.

Sharlene kept quiet.

“Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.” She thanked him.

Sharlene stepped out of her room and heard music coming from Jairus’ room. He was singing. A smile then appeared on her face.

“What a pretty song.” She thought. “But, why does his voice sound so familiar?” Her forehead crunched.

She couldn’t figure out the familiarity and just went back to her room, forgetting what she was intending to do. His singing cheered her up as well. She laid down on her bed, and calmed down, thinking about what her blog friend told her. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She was finally able to sleep.

Sharlene woke up the next day with an unread text message.

“Would you still be friends with me after you find out who I really am? Even if you might already know who I really am?” it was from Totomaries.
“Wrong text?” she replied.
“uh.. yeah.. sorry.” He replied a few minutes later.

That was the end of their mini conversation.

Moments later, Sharlene headed to the kitchen and saw Jairus trying to cook. She took a deep breath before approaching him.

“Sorry.” She apologized.
“For what?” he pretended as if he knew nothing and raised an eyebrow.

She walked closer to him.

“I…” before she could finish her sentence, Jairus pulled her closer to him and held her.

Sharlene was speechless from his action.

“Sorry, the oil splattered, I didn’t want you to get hit from it. They hurt y’know.” He told her as he let go. It’s obvious that he’s been hit from these oil splatters before.
“I-it’s okay.” She stuttered.

Sharlene turned down the burner on the stove and took a deep breath.

“You shouldn’t be frying anything at high heat from the start.” She advised.
“That’s why the oil kept splattering!” he quickly got it.

She decided to accept what happened previously and a few minutes prior. Instead of worrying about it, she spent the rest of the afternoon helping him how to cook.

Night time came and Sharlene just laid down on the couch in front of the TV. Jairus then joined her, sitting near her foot.

“What are you doing?” she started.
“Joining you. What does it look like?” Jairus gave an attitude.

The two are arguing again.

“Sit somewhere else!” Sharlene ordered.
“I wanna sit here. I have a better view here!” Jairus argued.
“Mooooooove!” Sharlene whined as she kicked him off the couch, but he wouldn’t budge.

Jairus then held her foot and covered it with a pillow.

“Ano ba?! You on your period or something?!” he teased.
“None of your business!!” She got up and left.

She walked to her room feeling irritated for some reason. She then received a message. It was from none other than, Totomaries again. This time however, it was a different type of message. It was an audio. It was of Totomaries singing.

She then realized it was the same voice and song that Jairus was singing the night before. Her eyes widened. She quietly rushed out of her room and peeked out to see Jairus. She immediately texted him.

“Watcha doing?” she tested him.
“ala. TV lang.” as soon as Jairus replied, her phone vibrated. She read his reply and it was the same as what he was doing.
“May favor ako sayo. Pwedi kang tumalon?” she tested him some more.

Jairus scratched his head with one eyebrow up. “Why?” he replied.
“Bored lang.” she lied.

Jairus then got up and jumped.

“There. Happy? I jumped. Although I don’t know why you wanted me to jump.” He texted.
“ahahahaha!! Thanks!”

Jairus is Totomaries?!” She thought in surprise. “May pa In love with him, in love with him ka pa dyan!” she sneered.
