APRIL

I sat in the creaky steel chair, the sun blazing down on me. Since the grand hall had been destroyed in the fight, the leaders had opted to do the ceremony outside.

I pulled on the red satin robe covering my body. It was like a sauna in there.

I watched them talk, watched them act indifferent like what happened hadn't taken a toll on anyone present.

"... we also give our condolences to the friends of those who lost their lives two weeks ago. They will be missed."

They couldn't even mention their names, that's because they knew their deaths weren't caused by the enemy. It was all lies.

My anger boiled inside of me along with my pain. Tears started to fall upon my cheeks and I couldn't help the tremors that went through my body.

I lost them... They're gone and they will never come back.

A hand grabbed my clenched fist and I looked over at Jewels, one of the girls that helped me to survive this year, helped to keep me on my feet.

"It is okay April," she said gazing at me with a sad look in her violet eyes. "We miss them too."

Sniffling caught my attention and I looked behind her to see Peaches with a solemn look on her face tears trailing down her cheeks as she gazed at the stage. Beside her, Mel sat playing with her pendant trying to bite down her sobs.

My sisters, my team... we were all feeling pain at their deaths.

Surrounding me there were also other students breaking down silently reliving what had happened two horrid weeks ago.

Though we are donned in robes and caps this was no graduation ceremony. This was a memorial. This was where we wept for our fallen students, this was where we overcome our grief and push forward. This was where we pledged to defeat the demons that killed them.

This was where we became Hunters.
