(A/N) I want to dedicate this chapter to @haloscarlet for commenting on the last chapter with a great quote she came up with thats incredibly relevant so I added it in the chapter, its "the harder you try to hold onto someone or something, the more it tries to get away" So thanks so much!!!

“Why do you look so miserable? You should be ecstatic!” A.J said as he helped me bring my large luggage downstairs.

“I am…” I said unconvincingly.

“Lainey…” He said knowingly waiting for an explanation as I let out a deep breath.

“I feel bad for leaving you. It feels like you just got home and then you're going to go back soon. I feel like I should stay and spend as much time with you as I can…” I said as A.J looked at me with a small smile.

“Lainey I’m leaving after new years, we still have a lot of time. And I’m going back to med school not dying…” he said with a small chuckle that made me smile.

“ I know…” I said.

“Listen how about this when you come back I’ll take you ice skating…just like old times.” He said.

“Sounds good…” I said.

“Aw I’m going to miss my baby girl.” My mom said as she came down the steps and wrapped her arms around me tightly.

“How come you're not getting ready for work? Its 6:30 in the morning…” A.J said.

“Well I took off to say goodbye to my baby.” She said as she let me go.

“Is Spencer taking you to the bus?” she asked.

“Nope, Jakes coming.” I said quickly.

“Alright well make sure you bundle up! And be careful!” she said and I nodded as I head Jakes horn beep outside.

“That’s my queue…” I said as I hugged my mom and my brother one last time.

As messed up as everything was I was still so excited about finally getting to go on this trip, and I wasn’t going to let anyone ruin that.

“I hate this…” I said as I took a seat on the bus besides Jake across from Rosie and her Rob.

“I thought you were going to have a happier outlook…” Jake said but as I looked at Spence standing at the front of the bus taking attendance as the students entered I couldn’t help but scowl.

“I tried…its not working.”

“Just think about having fun, riding the slopes, and forgetting all about Mr. King.” Jake said with a smile.

“I guess you're right…” I said.

“Always am,” he said with a smirk.

“Alright guys, quiet down!” Spence said from the front of the bus. His voice was strong and authoritative grabbing the attention of everyone on the bus.

“As you all know I’ll be taking over your homeroom for the ski trip and I demand the same respect that you would give any other teacher.” He said.

“It’s a 6 hour ride up to Oakdale and we’re going to try to make as least stops as possible, but if you need anything just come up to me and ask.” He continued.

“We have an extra seat next to me if any of you are uncomfortable where you are…” he said and over a dozen girls raised their hand. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the arrogant smirk he tried to hide.
