"Getting Old" - CHAPTER 14

"Honey, I know a trade when I see one." Keith assured his client as they were talking about the guy that just came in to pick up his girlfriend.

"It's always the fine ones," the client said, sadly.

Kandi watched the couple leave through her mirror, she couldn't help but feel envy at their happy faces.

I want that. Kandi thought, wishfully as she thought about Truth. It's been two weeks since she last seen him.

She woke up in the yacht cabin alone; she was devastated.

Kandi tried calling him since that night, but he never answered. She tried to get Cashmere or Tyrone to tell her something, but neither one would budge. Also, she noticed that most of his stuff were no longer in her house.

"Comfort Inn Ending" by Jhene Aiko started to softly play throughout out the salon speakers and Kandi caught a part in the song she couldn't help but agree with.

And I should've never took you on a boat for your birthday.

And I should've never fucked you on a boat on your birthday.

Hearing the chimes on her door go off, she look over and saw four black delivery men enter with big bags of food from the soul food place "A Taste Of Home."

"Is Kandi here?" One of the driver man asked as he looked around the salon.

"That's me." Kandi answered, sheepishly as she felt all eyes on her as she walked towards them.

"Here you go," he said, placing one of the bags in her hand.

Confused, she tried to give him the bag back but he declined her. "I didn't order this."

He winked. "I know, someone else did. Where do you us to put this?"

"You can put it right here!" Keith exclaimed as he quickly cleaned off the magazine table.

Feeling her phone go off in her pants pocket, she quickly took it out and saw Kendrick name popping up across the screen.

"Hey," she answered as she placed the bag of food on her station.

"I hope y'all enjoy lunch on me." Kendrick replied, smiling.

"Kendrick, you didn't have to do this," Kandi said, as she watched everyone in the salon get up and rush towards the bags of food.

"It's nothing, but I was calling to ask if you'll join me for dinner later." he inquired.

"Your back already?" she responded, surprised.

"Yeah, I cut it short, so will you join me?" he asked, again.

"Yes," she accepted.

"Good, I will let you go so you can enjoy your lunch."

"Bye."

Sliding her phone back in her pocket, she dug through the bag and saw all her favourite foods; Fried chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, stuffing, candy yams, collard greens, potato salad, and a slice of cornbread.

"Gurl, you better never let this man go!" Keith said, smacking on a chicken leg.

Kandi started eating as she watched everyone enjoy the food Kendrick bought and pondered on Keith words.

Finally, after doing her last client head who wanted long blonde box braids that touched her ass it was time to go and she was excited to get ready for her date.
