Chapter 10

“Are you sure you wanna do this?” I asked Shay, hesitant.

We were driving to Tyra’s house after Shay had come to me and said she was ready to finally talk to her. I was extremely surprised but happy at the same time. This will be good for her.

She deserves some closure.

Shay nodded. “I’m ready. Holding grudges isn’t healthy for me.”

She sounded confident but I could tell she was nervous.  Years of friendship made it easy for me to understand her emotions without her mentioning how she’s feeling.

I smiled. “This is good! A new beginning.”

She smiled slowly. “Yes. A new beginning.”

“I’m so glad you decided to come by.” Tyra said, handing us a cup of coffee. She looked more mature than the last time we had seen her. Her once short black hair was now long and

The air was tense. Shay was awkwardly sitting in the couch next to me, her eyes anywhere but at Tyra’s face. I cleared my throat, trying to clear the air as well. “We are too. It’s been a while.”

She nodded, smiling. “It has. I know there’s a lot to talk about.”

I nodded. “I--”

“--What happened when I kicked you out?” Shay asked bluntly.

Tyra, sighed. “I realized what I did was wrong. I fucked up my whole life because of some dumbass. I went into rehab again and actually worked hard. I didn’t do so much as look at drugs. I dumped the asshole and started fresh.” She smiled softly, “I love my new life. I feel so much...stronger. Like I can do anything. The only thing I will always regret is hurting both of you.”

I expected Shay to snap at her but instead she stood up and hugged Tyra.

Tyra closed her watery eyes. “I’m so sorry, Shay.”

“I’m sorry too, Tyra. I should’ve never introduced you to him.” Shay added, wiping her tears away.

Tyra shook her head. “It wasn’t your fault, Shay. Do you forgive me?”

Shay nodded, smiling. “Of course I do! Do you forgive me?”

She smiled. “There’s nothing to forgive.”

I laughed. “God you guys are so emotional! Let’s go out.”

They laughed.

Tyra nodded. “Why not go to the coffee shop down the street? They have the best desserts!”

When we were there we bought some desserts and sat down in some wooden chairs. The coffee shop had a relaxed aura about it. The coffee shop had a book area with bean bag chairs so you could relax and read a book whenever you wanted to.

I took a bite out of my small vanilla cupcake and my eyes widened at the delicious flavor. “Wow, you were right Tyra. This is really good!”

She nodded, proud of herself. “Told ya.”

We heard loud laughs coming from the front of the coffee shop bringing our attention to them.

I groaned, annoyed. It was Christopher along with some of his gang friends. They were all wearing black undershirts deliberately showing off their gang tattoos located on their arms.
