Chapter 7

I walked into the large gun shop with my hands inside my pockets. My mom was finally home so I borrowed her car and went to the farthest gun shop around so that Christopher’s gang wouldn’t see me in a gun shop. “Hello, I’m here for the shooting classes.” I said politely to the scrawny middle-aged employee. He was wearing a muddy brown shirt that said, "Girls love my big black...gun."

He nodded, smiling kindly. “Follow me.”

I followed him through a door that led to a small room with different types of targets.

He grabbed a small black gun and applied the bullets to it on the back of the gun. “I’m going to show you how to shoot your target.” He said looking at me while grabbing the gun. “Put your headset on for protection.”

I grabbed the orange headset and put it on.

He walked next to me and pointed the gun towards a body-shaped target. He then put the gun away without shooting. “First of all, let’s see which eye is your master eye. The master eye is the eye that focuses more on the target so you can shoot successfully.” He explained, “Put your hand out and raise your thumb while squinting, putting it on your target.”

I did as instructed.

He proceeded. “No close your left eye and if your thumb is still on the target then you have a right master eye. If not, then you have a left master eye.”

I smiled. “I have a right master eye.” I put my hand down.

He nodded. “Now let’s teach you how to shoot properly.”

I nodded, eager.

“How dare she?!” Shay exclaimed, angry.

“She just wanted to talk.” I said, shrugging.

“You don’t get it, Rose! She hurt us. Really hurt us. I cant believe she just thinks she can just waltz in like everything’s fine.” She said, glaring at me.

Tyra had been our best friend since middle school. Shay, Tyra and I would do everything together. We were as close as sisters and nobody could doubt the strength of our friendship until she started dating a gang member of Christopher’s gang. It started out innocent, well as innocent as dating a gangster could get, but then she started getting into the hard partying and popping pills until she blacked out and would wake up at a stranger’s house. Tyra’s parents ended up kicking her out of her house and never wanting to know anything about her. We tried getting her help. Especially Shay, she really wanted us to go back to the way we used to be. She paid for Tyra’s rehab and got her a place to stay and everything was going good and then Tyra bounced back into her old ways. She got even worst. She started stealing money from Shay and would always get into verbal fights with Shay. Shay didn’t give up until she found out that Tyra was selling herself in the streets. Her awful boyfriend would find guys so she could sleep with them for drug money. When Shay found out she drove over to my house crying hysterically. After Shay kicked her out, we didn’t hear anything else about her - until now that is.

“Don’t worry, Shay. We don’t have to talk to her.” I said, feeling bad for her.

She nodded, calming down. “I will never forgive her, Rose.” Her voice was filled with hidden sorrow.

“You know it wasn’t your fault right?” I asked softly. I always thought Shay blamed herself for Tyra’s addiction since she was the one who unknowingly introduced Tyra to the gang member.

Shay looked away from me. “It doesn’t really matter.”

I shook my head, frowning. “Of course it matters, Shay. She did that to herself.”

I put my hand on her shoulder, comforting her.

Shay bit her lip softly, her eyes tearing up. “It was my fault! If I wouldn’t have introduced her to him then she would have never started doing drugs!”

She started sobbing uncontrollably. I hold on to her, hugging her.

“It’s not your fault Shay! She’s the one that took the drugs. You didn’t shove the drugs down her throat. She did it because she wanted to.” I said, determined to make her understand.

She didn’t say anything, just kept on crying.

My cell phone started ringing and I sighed, annoyed.

Who chose the worst moment in the world to call me?

I looked at the caller ID and the phone was ripped out of my hands.

Shay had it with a huge glare on her face. “Tyra?!”
