The Twin

The Pack Doctor entered a few moments later, she informed me that I was completely fine. Nothing was broken or anything. My emotions were just so all over the place that my healing was just slacking. Which was true I guess. Especially now that I was worried about Isaiah. Is he okay? Did he make it out before my Pack mates arrived?

And that wolf Alex killed. Who was she? Was she one of the Creatures? Will they hate me now because of her death? It wasn't my fault though. They both came out of nowhere and attacked me. What was I supposed to do? Let them?

It wasn't my fault that Alex killed her either. I didn't even know he was there.

"What are you thinking so hard about?" He touched the crease between my eyes.

"The wolf... you killed."

He sighed, "It had to be done."

"Alex..." How can he show no remorse whatsoever?

A part of me was slightly sparkling with happiness though, he was protecting me and he didn't even have to take a moment to think about jumping to my aid.

"Liah, I don't understand. It was going to kill you. What did you want me to do? Sit idly by while it rips you apart?"

I'm not sure where he picked up this 'Liah' nickname but it sure did play on my heartstrings. The way it rolled off his tongue made me want to melt like ice-cream on a hot summer's day in Durban.

"No... But you could've bitten it somewhere else. It wasn't necessary to kill her."

"Oh, Goddess. You're so naïve. That wasn't some cute and cuddly wolf. She was there to kill you."

Feeling myself growing tired of this back and forth, I changed the topic of conversation. I was no longer on his territory nor are we linked so how did he know I was in danger? What was he even doing on my territory?

"What were you even doing there?"

"You wanted your boyfriend to save you?" I roll my eyes at his childish question, knowing he was referring to Nathaniel.

I repeat my question, "What were you doing there?"

"I was looking after you. Someone has to do it."

Does he actually expect me to believe that? We are one-on-one why doesn't he tell the truth, none of his wolves are around to see that he actually cares about his mate.

"Actually no one does. I can take care of myself." I scoff.

"Is that so? Because before I appeared I'm pretty sure you were in a little predicament."

It's so easy for us to fall back to our arguments it made me a little sad. I was enjoying having a decent conversation with him.

"Little predicament, yeah. I was handling it." I was now a foot away from him.

He dramatically rolls his eyes, "This pride you have is pointless. It will get you nowhere."

"Screw you! You're one to speak! You have a terrible temper and this I-am-the-king-of-the-world mentality. You think that'll get you anywhere?"

I mentally sigh, here we go again.

"Honey. Look around, it has gotten me the largest, strongest Pack on the continent." He chuckles darkly.

"Yeah, but at what cost?" We were face-to-face – really face to chest – now.

I saw something flash in his eyes but before I could decipher it, the door opened stealing away Alexander's eyes from mine. We both turned our heads to get a glance at the intruder.
