PILOTS ARE SURE OF A PLACE IN HEAVEN

Not everyone is allowed into Heaven. There's a formal checking process to get through  outside the Pearly Gates.

This particular day it was especially busy with hundreds of thousands of people of all races and  backgrounds  queuing up in front of the gate.  It was so busy that Saint Peter himself  came down to help behind the reception desk.

A man, very sure of himself, walked past the queue and stopped squarely in front of Saint Peter and announced himself to be the last Pope.

“ Wait your turn and let that man come first,” said St. Peter pointing to a man standing at the far end of the queue.

“ And who is he to be so favoured?” enquired the indignant ex-Pope

“ He’s a Sea- Pilot who, in the course of his career, made more Captains pray to God than you ever did!”

a/n With thanks to Captain Steve Lyshon, Delaware River Pilot for this story; one of many tales we exchanged on the several hours of pilotage in the Delaware River from the pilot boarding ground off Brandywine Lighthouse and the berth at Marcus Hook.
