Chapter 44:

TMI Gandalf

And the hour comes in a hurried panic, like that of Bilbo's. Thranduil demands a mirror within his large bedroom, so I spend the majority of this time digging around in storage. Eventually, and after a multitude of insect bites, I find a hand mirror and give the search up. Thranduil is not too happy with its small size, but after a few rude words on my part, he relents and returns to brushing his locks. He's Rapunzel, I tell you.

The rest of that hour I spend with the humans, helping them climb over the gate's wreckage and unpacking their belongings. With the vastness of the dwarven homeland, every soldier and family has a separate room for themselves, with a multitude to spare. I took one of the larger rooms for myself, which resided near the heart of the kingdom and throne room.

So, the hour goes quickly and I find myself running late for the first time today. When I told the other leaders to gather in the meeting room, I was merely assuming there was such a room in this castle. Therefore, I have no idea where I am going at the moment and have relinquishing myself to wandering the halls for help. Eventually, and after the passing of much time, I stumble upon my favorite hobbit, and best friend. Bilbo looks frantic as I come around the corner, but relaxes at my sight.

"Where have you been? The council wants to start without you," Bilbo informs me in his typical panic. I smile at my hobbit, silently laughing at the fact that the company still send Bilbo to find everything. Some things never change.

"I am lost, it would seem," I reply to him as he begins to drag me down the hallways with the pulling of my small hand. Evidently, Bilbo seems to know his way as I find myself within a large room of heightened ceilings and white light. The leaders, minus Thorin, sit about a century-old, wooden table, grumbling about my tardiness. I can't help but wonder how they found their way through the mazes of the Mountain.

"Sorry, sorry! Gandalf, I thought you said this place would be easy to find. I lost my way, twice. Wouldn't have found it at all had it not been for Bilbo," I address the wizard, sending the leaders out of their daze and staring at me. I cringe away at the attention as Gandalf laughs for unknown reasons.

"I think you are forgetting about a few times, Erudian," Thorin says, entering the room from the shadows. He smirks at me as I realize he must of been watching my mindless travels through the tunnels. I hit his arm away as he reaches for my waist, causing him to fake a hurt look. That previous smirk of his visage now paints my face.

"I feel like we've had this conversation before..." Bilbo mumbles from his new spot at Gandalf's side. We all look off in silence, trying to recollect when and where we've said this before. Being the quick-witted hobbit that he is, Bilbo remembers first.

"Back at Bag-End, when you and Thorin arrived!" he shouts, sending a smile across my face. Looking back now, I realize that to be the first proper conversation me and Thorin had. I can't help but look over at my dwarf king, who looks to be thinking the same.

"Ahh, now I remember...and Rue scared the conkers out of you. She has always been a feisty one," Thorin grins at his hobbit companion.

"You love it about me," I remark as I look upon the two males. Thorin grabs my waist, firmly this time, and pulls me hard into his chest. I freeze up at the sudden action, but relax into his homely embrace.

"That I do. I am thankful for that time in the Shire, for I met the love of my life," Thorin says, staring deeply into his eyes. And, as per the usual, I cannot help but make a playful remark.
