Chapter 16

A million things were running through my mind. I couldn't believe what Jax had just told me. I still thought he was wrong for not telling me anything about other shifters, but now I understood why he didn't. Some of the rogues Jax had met were insane, viscous and just completely ruthless.  I sat there speechless as I stared at Jax. He looked horrified and sad. I had never seen him in this state. Jax was always strong; he was always my rock.

"She just killed him?" I finally whispered.

Jax didn't look up when I spoke. He didn't answer me either, but he didn't have to. I knew the answer because it was written all over Jax's face. I wish that Jax had shared his burden with me back when he was fourteen, but I'm also glad he didn't. I don't think I would have handled it. I mean, fourteen for christ sakes! I didn't realise the amount of pressure Jax has had on his shoulders; to protect us, just so I could go about my life without interference. I felt terrible. Jax wasn't the jerk; I was.

"I'm sorry Jax. I've been acting like a complete bitch ever since I found out you knew about rogues. I didn't understand Jax. Please forgive me," I pleaded as I leaned forward and placed my hand on Jax's hunched shoulder.

Jax looked up and gave me a small smile, letting me know he was ok, but his eyes were still full of sadness and it broke my heart. If I ever met that Eva bitch I would so give her more than a piece of my mind. If she's still alive that is.

"Jax?" I said crouching down so I could peer into his face. "What happened to Eva, Jax?" I asked softly.

"I don't know. After she killed him I ran Storm. I just left her there, by herself. I could hear more wolves approaching after she shot him, so I jumped up and ran off. I turned back to see what Eva was doing, but she wasn't standing where she once was. It was just the dead man, left lying on the ground," Jax replied, as he folded his hands across his chest and leaned back in his chair.

"I don't know if Eva is still alive or why she killed that man, but my guess is that he was her alpha's son. I think she killed him for revenge and she lied to all of us so we would help her under false pretences. If I had known..." Jax replied breaking off his sentence and clenching his fists.

"It wouldn't have mattered Jax. Eva still would have gone with or without you," I told him.

"The evil bitch," I said under my breath as I leaned back in my chair. I was starting to get a stiff back from sitting here for so long.

"She wasn't the evil one Storm! That bastard deserved it. After what he did to her; after what he did to all those girls for fucks sakes," Jax yelled, slamming his fist down on the table.

"And his son Jax? Did he deserve it? Eva is an evil screwed up bitch for dragging a fourteen year old off to fight her fricking battles. So don't you dare scream at me because of her!" I yelled back as I bolted up out of my chair making it tip back and slam on the floor.

The situation had escalated so fast, but I was used to it. It has always been like this between me and Jax. He would get mad and I would never back down, it was always the same. I was just fuming because he was. I got that Eva had a messed up life, but that didn't give her an excuse to kill someone. Especially the way that poor man died. He was executed at point blank range and he never stood a chance, but yet Jax was still defending her.

"Fuck this! I'm going to bed," Jax replied, getting up from his chair and walking off towards the hall.

"Fine then! I'm going home," I yelled back, as I stomped over to the front door.
