I awoke to the strong smell of smoke and noticed fire surrounding me. I began to cough and choke on the thick smoke that filled my lungs. I ran to my door, but it was locked from the outside. I tried and tried to get it open, but it wouldn't budge. I ran to the window and busted it open with the bedside chair. The fire erupted, knocking me back on the ground. Crawling towards the broken window I tried to catch my breath, but the smoke was making it hard to breathe, my lungs felt like they were on fire. I crawled to the edge of the balcony and looked down; it was a 2 story drop but I didn't have a choice. It was either try to crawl and fall over it or stay up here and burn. I decided to take my chances with the ground, and pulled myself over the side, closing my eyes I prepared myself to hit the ground, but instead was caught by strong arms. Opening my eyes, I looked up to see Damon staring down at me with fear in his eyes. Even though things were rocky between us I buried my face in his chest and cried. He sat me down, so that my feet touched the ground. He grabbed my face with his hands, his eyes running over my body to check for any injuries. Other than the cuts on my arms and legs from crawling through broken glass, I was fine. He backed away and yelled for the guards who surrounded us.

"Check the house! If you find anyone bring them to me!" he commanded before they all scattered and ran to different sides of the house, making sure all entrances and exits were covered.

"What happened up there?" he said looking at me, a mixture of fear and anger in his eyes.

"I don't know, I fell asleep and was speaking with my mother, when I woke up the room was up in flames. I tried to open the door, but it was locked from the outside, so I broke the window and crawled out." I replied as I stared up at the broken window. Whoever started the fire, wanted me dead. There was no mistaking that I was in danger, this time I got lucky and managed to escape, next time I may not be so lucky.

"From now on you will stay close to me. It will make it harder for whoever is planning these attacks to get close to you." He said with a sigh.

"No, I will be fine. You've done everything you can to keep your distance from me for whatever reason. There's no need to force yourself to be around me now. I will keep guards with me when I am out and have one at my door at night. You can go back to whatever it is that you have been doing." With that I walked away towards the house. I know my mother said to give him time but after what just happened, I couldn't help but be pissed at him. Someone was targeting me and instead of being here for me like a mate should be, he was pushing me away and putting me at even more risk.

It had been hours since the fire. The cleanup team came and did what they could to salvage my stuff and the room, but everything was pretty much gone. The cause of the fire was the trashcan beside my bed, somehow, I got lucky enough that it spread to the curtains first instead of the bed. Walking upstairs I went to the bedroom me, and Damon used to share. My heart hurt every time I came in here, that's why I switched rooms in the first place. Aaron was my guard for today and had no problem helping me get some of my things and moving them across the hall into the spare master bedroom. I didn't have much clothes left since most of them had been lost in the fire, so I would have to make do with what I had for right now.

"Everything is ready for you Luna. I am sorry that things have been so hard for you. If there is anything that you need don't hesitate to ask. I will be right outside your door if you need me." He said before walking out and shutting the door behind him.

This room was darker than the other. The walls painted black, with the bed set matching. It reminded me of death which was ironic since I almost met mine just a few hours ago. Shaking my head, I headed towards the bathroom to shower and get the burnt smell off me. My heart ached for Damon every second we were apart, my wolf had stopped talking to me since I last spoke to Damon. Disagreeing with my decision to keep things how they are and craving her mate by her side even if it was under these circumstances. I understood her anger towards me, I was keeping her from Damon's wolf who craved her as much as she did him. Too bad that wasn't the case for me and Damon. I shook the thoughts from my head as I stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around me. Looking in the mirror I didn't recognize the girl looking back at me, her arms had cuts down them, as if a rabid cat had attacked her, her eyes once full of light had faded to a dull purple, her skin no longer glowed, and the smile she always wore was long gone. The distance between me and Damon was hurting our bond and taking a toll on me.

There was a knock on the door that pulled me from my thoughts. Grabbing my robe, I put it on and headed towards the door. Opening it I was shocked to see Damon standing outside, his eyes meeting mine. Stepping aside I opened the door for him then walked towards the bed to sit down.

"I just wanted to stop in and check on you." He said quietly.

"As you can see, I am fine." I said refusing to look at him and instead running the brush through my wet hair.

"Stop. Don't act like that. I don't want to be like this." He said with a loud sigh.

"It was your choice to make things this way between us Damon. YOU chose to push me away." I said angrily, not letting him blame me for whatever issues he had going on.

"You act like I want this! This isn't how we are supposed to be!" he said raising his voice at me.

"Don't you? Get out. I don't want to speak to you. Thank you for catching me but leave me alone. You've had enough practice the last week, shouldn't be too hard for you to do." I said as I walked to the bathroom, shutting and locking the door behind me.

I couldn't do this with him right now. The onlytime we have spoken is when something has happened, then its back to avoidingeach other. I waited until I heard him leave, slamming the door behind him, then I unlocked the door and stepped back out into the room. I didn't want tobe alone tonight and needed someone to talk to about what was going on.
