He heard a soft, deep mid-tone voice. A middle-aged man comes out the door. The tall, soft-looking man had dark black hair and blue eyes. Despite the sparse white hairs, the man's gentle impression makes him look younger.

"Sir Gordon."

Aiden's eyes widen, then he bows his head briefly and greets the man. They walk to the front of the man. The eye level, his eyes, slightly above Karlyle's, are somehow familiar. The eye level gap with Ash is also like this. The man looks at Karlyle with a smile.

"Is this gentleman the one Mr. Heywood mentioned?"

"I'm Karlyle Frost."

Gordon clasps his outstretched hand. It's only a succinct handshake, but that's not strange with someone possessing such an esteemed title, after all, this man is a dominant Alpha.

The number of dominant Alphas in the world is said to have decreased over time, still, it's quicker to find someone who is not dominant Alpha around Karlyle. However, the man doesn't give off an intimidating feel, perhaps because of his soft impression.

"I've encountered Sir Frost a few times."

Having said that, Gordon gestures towards the door. Aiden tends to be unnecessarily interested in Karlyle's work, but he knows his place when things get serious. Aiden rises from his seat and excuses himself.

"I heard you want Mr. Whitewood's painting. If I'm not wrong, you said there is someone you would like to give it to."

Entering the room, Gordon broaches the topic of discussion. It's completely different from the ostentatious way nobles act, and it leaves Karlyle speechless.

Leading Karlyle to a table where tea has been prepared, Gordon asks him to take a seat. Karlyle slowly opens his mouth.

"First of all, thank you for allowing me a moment of your precious time."

Gordon waves his hand as if to say "it's okay" and sits down on the chair. Again, his straightforward behavior is different from the nobles Karlyle has met.

"It's a painting I possessed, but it's interesting that there are people looking for it. So you can say I'm making time for you out of interest."

Saying that, Gordon picks up his teacup. Watching quietly, Karlyle also picks up a small cup of milk and mixes the milk with the tea. Holding the teacup, Gordon looks at him.

"As Sir Gordon said, I'm looking for the painting. If you are willing to accept my offer... please feel free to tell me what you want."

Hearing Karlyle's words, Gordon averts his eyes. His gaze turns sideways toward the canvas hanging in the center of the wall lined with bookshelves. Without explanation, Karlyle realizes that it is the painting Ash talked about.

Ash has explained the painting in great detail. The painting matches exactly with Ash's description. The purple and blue lights shine brilliantly under the white moonlight.

The silhouette shrouded in the shadow seems to be alive, though their visage is not clearly visible. A small, straight nose falling in a round curve and the corners of the person's mouth, which seems to be smiling faintly, can be seen from the side view.

Karlyle has seen countless paintings. Among them, there are pieces that are worth more than one could ever imagine, and there are works that the general public would be happy to witness just once in a lifetime. But he has never truly and sincerely felt anything through those works of art.

However, in the painting in front of him, there is a certain affection that overwhelms the viewer. It seems like the artist loves the person in the painting to the point of worship. Karlyle can't tell if he has this feeling because the painting itself is great, or if it's because of his love for Ash.
