Reunion ***
Dorcas' death left a gaping hole in my heart.
I found a friend in her when they all left and I needed someone. It came to me that she was one of those stars in my life. Stars shine less than the moon and sun, yet stars are someone whom we didn't notice during the brighter days but showed up in our darkest moments to share with us their tiniest glimmer.
Sadly, these stars also have an end to their lifetime, when that time comes, they'll collapse and turn into a supernova.
You are the best foe and the worst friend, Dorcas. My friends only left, but you... you shattered me.
As I delivered my speech for our graduation, the tears kept flowing down to my cheeks that it almost choked me. It was embarrassing for others, but that moment is something that I have wished to share with Dorcas.
Kung hindi nangyari ang itinakda, she might have been the one standing here.
We had a solemn dinner for her one year anniversary at their home. Tanging mga kapamilya at malalapit na kaibigan lamang ang nandoon.
"Snowy!" Tumalon ang pusa sa barandilya ng hagdanan paakyat sa second floor. Hindi na ito nahabol ni Ate Belen, ang househelp nila na magpapaligo sana sa pusa. The mischievous cat just got dumped with caramel when she was looking for food in the kitchen.
"Ate, ako na po," natatawa kong boluntaryo at umakyat sa taas. Aligaga na rin kasi ang kasambahay dahil sa dami ng bisita.
I descended and saw the cat at the end of the corridor, scratching a certain door as if she wanted to get inside.
"Hoy, pusang gala ka. Halika at maligo ka muna bago kita gawing caramel popcorn," pagbabanta ko sa kanya at walang pagmamadaling lumapit dito. Wala rin naman siyang ibang pupuntahan. She's trapped.
Pero bigla namang bumukas ang pinto na kanina niya pa kinakalmot at pumasok doon.
Napasinghap ako at mabilis na sumunod. Baka kasi magkalat doon ang pusa, balot na balot pa naman ito ng caramel.
I sighed in relief when I saw the cat on the window sill. Nakataas pa rin ang kurtina niyon kaya aninag ang tanawin sa labas. Mukhang wala namang ibang gamit na nadumihan ni Snowy.
The cat glanced at me like an uninteresting object before proceeding to groom herself. Licking the caramel off from her snowy-white fur.
Tuluyan akong pumasok at may napagtanto nang makita ang buong silid.
This was Dorcas' room...
It's finely made, like it's waiting for someone to occupy it.
I smiled at how girly it was. If I would have known, baka inasar ko na siya. It's as if Barbie puked in it.
