I Am Lacerta Chapter 54

It all seemed to happen at the same time. My dear cousin was still charging towards me of course, and Lupin was looking grimly at Evangeline who had just started to curse him, Lara ran towards old Dumbly and grabbed him before he could hit the ground and apparated him away to somewhere I can only guess was safer.

Blaine was still looking rather bewildered, Aaron had started to curse Emmeline, Aoife was finished healing her leg and had sprung up and was standing next to me. Nott, Crabbe, Goyle and Lucius began a hard fight with Mad-Eye and Kingsley... it was all going down.

Mad-Eye cast a spell, that I didn't see have any effect then, I gulped when I saw Blake attempting to apparate away and getting automatically splinched, not going anywhere at all. Mad-Eye'd cast an anti-apparition charm - no one was getting out of here via apparation.

I then sprung into action.

"Aoife - get Blake!" I screeched, while simultaniously hitting Tonks with the sectumsempra curse, making her fall to the ground. Tonks screamed out in pain and I smirked, and was about to say:

"Not so strong now, are we?",  when I saw Aoife stop out of the corner of my eye. She turned slowly, a flame burning in her eyes and she snapped her fingers. Tonks healed immediately, and I gasped in shock, before glaring at Aoife. She gulped, realising what she had just done, and ran towards Blake without looking back.

I rolled my eyes and looked back to Tonks, who was looking at where her wounds had just been.

"Avada Kedav-" I began, but was cut off by a curse hitting me from the side and spinning me off to the right, and I landed uncomfortably on my right shoulder. I screeched out in pain and jumped to my feet, seeing Lupin standing before me wand raised glaring straight at me.

"You'd kill your own cousin?" Lupin asked.

I stared at him, confused at his tone of voice.

"I'm not your average thirteen-year-old."

"So I've been told." he said and I smirked, seeing Evangeline behind him.

"Sectumsempra!" she shrieked, pointing her wand at his back. He fell to the floor groaning. I shrieked with laughter, running over to her and high-fiving her before spinning around and cursing Tonks as well - with the cruciatus curse, without batting an eyelid. She then passed out, and I turned to Evangeline grinning.

We then both set about helping another - I took Kingsley and she went for Emmeline. Suddenly, just when I had gotten ahead of Shaklebolt, a crack sounded and Lara appeared again. I left the confused face of Shaklebolt, Lucius taking over, and ran towards her firing curse after curse at her.

Suddenly, I had a realisation. We could clearly apparate again.

"Crabbe! Goyle!" I screeched and they turned and blocked their opponent in the same movement. "Take Blake and get out of here!"

They nodded and apparated out of here with Blake, who was really weak after taking a bad hit to the face... possibly from me in my anger at his stupidity. Unfortunately, Nott realised at that moment he could escape so he apparated away, leaving Lucius on his own to fight Mad-Eye and Shaklebolt.

I ran towards them, blocking for Lucius while I motioned for Aoife to continue my fight with Lara. She did just that with such confidence - I felt very pleased with her.

Then, Mad-Eye realised that Death Eaters were escaping, so re-placed the anti-apparition jinx - no one else was getting out. Aaron grabbed me and pulled me out of the way of a stunning jinx from Mad-Eye, and I pulled Lucius and we all started to run. Aoife and Evangeline soon caught on - we were getting out of here on foot, asap - but sadly so did Emmeline and Lara.

"Stop them!" screeched Lara. I rolled my eyes. Yeah, 'cos shouting's going to catch us, isn't it?!

I shot curse, after curse behind me at Lara, Mad-Eye and Lupin - who had been revived by Shaklebolt on his way. I looked over to Lucius and saw him looking at me too. I mouthed:

"Take Evangeline and Aaron and get out of here - I'll take Aoife. Good luck."

He then replied, while cursing a revived Tonks to the ground: "Sounds good. Meet me back at the manor in twenty or I'll come looking for you."

I nodded and grabbed Aoife as we swerved to the left down an alley, while Lucius distracted the Order. Sadly, Lara was watching me closely so she and Lupin followed me down the alley. Aoife and I shot curse after curse at them as the alley swerved this way and that.

"Expulso!" I shot, which Lupin deflected for Lara, while Lara sent back:

"Petrificus Totalus!" which I easily deflected.

Suddenly out of the blue, a curse was hurtling my way before I had time to defend myself. Aoife was on hand though, and deflected it easily, but Lupin was sneaky and took that time when she was unguarded to hit her with:

"Locomotor mortis!", snapping her legs together, making her topple over. I kept running, as she screeched:

"Lacerta!" at me, I sliced my wand through the air and Aoife came hurtling ahead of me. While I was still controlling Aoife to make sure she didn't slam into a wall - Lara smirked and used my own spell against me:

"Caedere!" she cried and a large wound slashed through my back. I didn't stop running, not even when the blood trickled down my back.

Lara's laugh of triumph was cut short when she realised that I was unaffected, turning mid-way into a shriek of disbelief.

My mind was so frazzled I couldn't for the life of me remember the counter-jinx for "Locomotor mortis." so I morphed into a Hippogriff, grabbed the barely concious Aoife in my teeth, threw her onto my back, which made me scream out in absolute pain, and flew off into the night towards Malfoy Manor, leaving a shrieking Lara behind me.

Midway through the air, Aoife came to her senses, held on tight to my back, which made screech in pain. She let go abruptly, looking down at my back and gasping. She then apparated us away to the Manor....

When we landed, I gasped in a laboured breath and said: "I told you I wouldn't stop running for you, Aoife." before passing out from blood loss and pain.....
