I Am Lacerta Chapter 23

I had only a small amount of apparition skills. I could not apparate whenever or wherever I wanted but thanks to the Dark Lord – if I pressed my mark and concentrated – I was able to apparate to wherever he was immediately.

So when I came to a stop after apparating away from Malfoy Manor, I bowed down low infront of my master. I then looked up slightly saying,

                “Master, I bring news. “

“Well? What is it then? Spit it out, girl!” he snapped.

“Dumbledore knows I am not returning to Hogwarts this year and he has requested a talk with me on the twenty-ninth of August. Should I go?” I asked quickly.

“Of course you must, Lacerta. If you didn’t go it would look suspicious wouldn’t it? It was a good idea to inform me… I’ll have to reschedule it then…” he muttered to himself the last bit.

“What will you have to reschedule, master?” I asked curiously before I could stop myself. When the words had tumbled out of my mouth I covered it with my hands.

His eyes snapped up and looked at me murderously,

“You do not need to know all of my business, you nosy child!” he spat at me and struck me across the face with a spell I don’t know. “As it so happens, this piece of information does involve you.  I have another job for you,” He said, not giving me the option to back out. “which requires your abilities. I’ll give you more information soon. Leave now, Lacerta.” He said.

I nodded and bowed low. I left the room quickly, then morphed into an eagle to fly home to Malfoy Manor. It felt good to feel the fresh wind blowing against my face as I flew, I had missed this sensation. It was easier flying on a broom, but you didn’t get the rush you did with flying with your own wings.

I was about to land at Malfoy Manor when a thought hit me – I’m free now, why the hell would I go back there to captivity? I summoned my owl from Malfoy Manor, but a second later I remembered that I was awful at summoning. A dark brown blob was hurting towards me, screeching and I only just ducked out of the way and dodged my owl Hermes. I caught him and rubbed him soothingly to try and comfort him after he had almost been killed by my lousy casting.

I flew to Diagon Alley, and went into Flourish and Blotts to borrow some parchment. I nodded at Mr. Kessler and he nodded back, which I assumed meant that I could use his parchment. I sat down at the counter and wrote four quick letters:

Fred,

How are you? I finally escaped Malfoy Manor so I’m enjoying some freedom. School’s starting up again soon – I wish I could go with you, I’m going to miss you lots and lots. I think I’m going to try come work down in Hogsmeade – I could see you all the time! Message me back soon!

Lots of Love, Lacerta xx

The next letter read:

Sirius,

I’m sorry I haven’t sent you a letter for some time but I’ve been locked away in Malfoy Manor for some time, as you know, and I only just escaped. I hope you are well – we need to meet up sometime, I miss you. Lots of love,

Lacy x

The third letter said:

Luna,

How are you, Lu? I hope your well. I’m sorry I stopped messaging you – my aunt and uncle stole my owl. I’ve been meaning to ask you for some time – can I renew my subscription to the Quibbler? Hope to see you soon.

Love from your best friend, Lacy x

The final letter read:

Dear A.P.W.B. Dumbledore,

I will meet you on the twenty-ninth of August. Hoping you are well,

Lacerta. N. Lestrange

When I finished writing all my letters I strapped them to Hermes’ leg and gave him strict instuctions as to how he was to deliver them. I then sent him off and I set off back to my prison…
