Chapter 10: ****Joyce****
To say that I was disappointed would be underplaying it. I was enraged, humiliated, and disgraced by my own daughter; and let’s not forget the fact that Daniel blames this whole thing on me. How could she do this to me after everything I’ve taught her? I did everything in my power to secure her future and she just goes and throws it all away for that…dreadlocked inconspicuous jester! Suddenly my phone rang with a private caller ID displaying on the screen.
“Hello?” I said into the receiver
“Hi mom.” My excuse of a daughter said quietly
“Olivia?” I inquired
“Yes.”
“Olivia. You are a disgrace!” I shouted into the phone. “Not just to this family, but to womanhood! How could you do such a thing?” I felt like strangling her! Good thing she was on the phone!
“I’m sorry mom. I just couldn’t go through with it! I couldn’t bring myself to marry Andrew despite all the securities he provided! Anyway, I wanted to let you know that Jack and I are in Jamaica, and we’re fine!” she said and I sighed
“And you think I care?” I asked. “Olivia, you can go to Toronto and it wouldn’t make any difference!” I scoffed. “After all I taught you! You are nothing but a goat!” I yelled and took a deep breath.
“Mom! Mom, I know that you’re very upset, but…”
“Of course I’m very upset!” I interrupted her. “Andrew was such a good thing, but your friend has him now!” I retorted
“My friend has him? What are you talking about?” she suspiciously asked and I smiled bitterly
“Huh! My dear daughter, the wedding still took place, with your best friend Vanessa as the bride!” I said with a smug smile and waited for that info to sink in.
“That’s not possible! Vanessa would never do that to me!” she whined and I scoffed
“Really?” I said in a patronizing tone. “Anyway, I wish them immense happiness like I wish for you and your MAD friend over there!” I said with disgust. “You…” I didn’t finish because she hung up on me. I was still gaping at my phone when Daniel, my husband came out of the bedroom and looked at me as if to ask “who was that?” and I gulped
“That was Olivia. She called to let us know that she’s in Jamaica.” I said quietly and he raised his eyebrows
“I am not interested in whatever she said! As far as I am concerned, she no longer exists!” he said with finality to his voice and I swallowed loudly
“Sweetheart, she’s still your daughter, you can’t take that away!” I said willing him to understand
“She is not my daughter because I’ve just disowned her!” he said calmly and I gaped at him surprise, but before I could mutter a word he raised his hand and said “that is the end of this topic! Can I have something to eat?” he asked changing the subject all together and I nodded my head absentmindedly. Well there goes everything I’ve done as mother, I thought bitterly and went to the kitchen to get the man food as he asked.
A/N: It’s short but I wanted to get it out of the way. The story will be in Vanessa’s POV from here on until further notice.
