And so here we are again, where we left off, if that's how you think the story ends, you're so wrong, in fact, when I said that it was only the beginning, I really meant, it was only the beginning..

"Jack?!" You shouted making you immediately drop your basket of sticks for the fire as you ran out onto the icy thin layer of the lake towards Mary, almost slipping a few times

"(Y/n)! Please help him!" Mary shouted in tears as she looked over at you from the hole

"Jack!" She then shouted again as she got to her knees appearing over the water

"No no no no no" you repeated aloud in a panic as you grabbed Mary and faced her towards you

"Run back to the village, get your mom, get anyone, just go, hurry!" You demanded as Mary nodded wiping away some tears as she got to her feet and as fast as she could, ran her way off the lake and back to the village to get someone

You looked into the hole, into the dark depths of water in hopes to see any movements at all, nothing

"Jack!?" You then shouted over the cracked ice as you searched around the area to find anything that helps when you picked up the stick that was used to help save Mary

"If you can hear me, try finding the stick and hold onto it!" You shouted as you lowered the piece of wood into the cold dark water in hopes of a tug, again, nothing

"No.." you said softly to yourself as you gripped onto the stick more tightly lowering it down more into the water

"No, please.." you whispered as your eyes started filling with tears

Within a couple of minutes with no movement or anything, you forced yourself to pull the stick out from the water as you laid it next to you

"I can't lose you" you sobbed as you bent over your knees covering your face with your hands in tears just as you started to hear the distant sound of chattering as it grew closer and closer

Within a few minutes, the Villagers all stood around the lake, if not, on the lake either looking confused, worried or scared

Some of the men brung ropes, long sticks and tools to try and help after they were told the situation, the children? They stood there in front of their parents confused not knowing what is really happening at all

The men slowly made their way across the ice towards the hole with their equipment as you slowly stood up and backed away

For the next hour, they tried all they could to find him and bring him up out of the water but nothing

Some of the women and children left to go back towards the village along with Mary and her mom

Within a couple hours later, they gave up, no body was found, no proof of life, nothing, they just left..

You stayed there for hours staring at the lake in the freezing cold before you heard footsteps walking up from behind you

"Hey.. are you okay?"

"What do you think?.." you asked looking up to see Fae, clearly upset as well

"I'm sorry.." she whispered softly before sitting into the snow beside you

"It's not your fault.."

"Out of all things, I never thought this would ever happen.." she then said hugging her knees as you just stayed silent

"You've been here for hours.. you're going to end up with hyperthermia if you keep this up.. maybe you should come with me back towards the village, we can go to my place and warm up, I can get my mom to make us some tea" she suggested

"I can't leave.." you said softly still staring out at the lake

"Why not?" She asked

"They never found him, I know that under all this ice, he's still physically there"

"I can't leave knowing that even though he's been under there for hours and won't have no signs of life, that he has suffered for who knows how long in that cold, freaking dumb water"

"I know how you feel.. but have you thought that maybe he wouldn't want you to do all of this? all because of him?" She asked when she placed her hand on your shoulder

"Do you think I care what he would think right now? Yes, I know how he is, he wouldn't want me doing this, but he never once ever thought about letting any of us do anything as long as he knows that it's because of him"

"That is true.. but it's not only just for him.. what about us?" She asked making you go silent before sighing in defeat

"Let's go warm you up.."

A couple days later after the incident, everyone came together to hold a ceremony for the loss of a child as everyone held candles that were lit and dancing around in the cold air as we all walked together out of the village and towards the lake

Some people volunteered to say some few touching words towards the loss child, if not, the family

"Just imagine how different life would be if you didn't meet them, would it be the same? Different?.. probably not, everyone here has an impact in life, everyone, whether you knew that or not, and even when one light burns out, the impact of that one flame lit others, Jackson will always be in our memories and hearts, therefore being a legend in our eyes"

Fae stepped out from the circle holding a candle in her hands before speaking

"My dad taught me that sometimes, the person you need most can leave you like it's nothing, and he was my example, he was my best friend, always there for me whenever I needed him, but not all the time I would go to him.. and now since I'm looking back on those memories.. I regret not doing so.."

"Losing my son was the hardest thing I have ever experienced.. which is why we love sharing these moments and memories in an effort to keep his memories alive"

"People have always been so drawn to my brother, Jack.. complimenting him, his funny personality.. people today are still drawn to him, we know it because his spirit has left a mark on us, a mark that will never go away"

"Prayers to the family"

In the end, we took a stone and carved out the name "Jackson Overland" as it were placed by the nearest tree closest to the lake and from there, it remains
