Chapter Ten: Trust Nobody

Today is a Thursday. Four days after the accident. Medyo stable na si Kei pero kinumbinsi ko na mag-stay muna saamin ang kaibigan niyang si Denise habang wala ako sa bahay.

My mom is healthy and so is my brother. I was worried sick for them. It turns out na nasira ang battery ng cellphone ni kuya kaya pinagawa muna ng isang araw

"Manuel, d'yan mo nalang ilagay yung huling 50 boxes." Utos ko sa isang worker na nag-aasikaso sa mga products dito sa warehouse bago dalhin sa cargo.

International company na kami since last year. Marami kaming mga proyekto na ilalabas pa sa near future at mayroon din akong balak na magpatayo ng mga kompanya sa ibang parte ng Europe.

Bumalik ako sa labas upang bilangin kung kukulangin kami para sa shipment para mamaya.

Sakto lang pala. 19 trucks.

I drove back to our main building and went straight to my office. I entered the elevator and stared at my shoes. Hindi ko namalayang lumulutang na pala isip ko at bumalik ako sa katotohanan nang marinig ko ang ding ng elevator.

Pumasok ako sa office ko at umupo. May nakita akong envelope sa bag ko at kinuha ito. Kailan ba ako nagrecieve ng documents?

I opened the envelope and read the letter.

'tik tok, tik tok. Time is running out. three more days to go. But look out for the toe.

I furrowed my brow and crumpled the paper furiously. Anong kalokohan ba ito! Kailan kaya ako titigilan nto?!

I crumpled the paper and threw it across the room. How on earth did it end up in my office?! Got my phone, calmed myself down a little, and dialed Tanner.

"Hey, Tanner?"

"Jace? Why'd you call?"

I sighed and rubbed my face. "Pre may dumating na note dito sa loob ng office ko. Nasa inyo ba si Luna?"

There was a brief silence before she spoke. "No. She's on a shopping date with Amara."

Napamura ako. "Is it okay if I hire a private investigator?"

"You don't have to." Bilisang sabi ni Tanner. "Tomorrow is my day off, I'll follow her around."

"Are you sure?" I asked. He seemed a bit off. I won't blame him though.

"Yeah, dude. I'm all good."

"Sige. Salamat pre. Bye."

I then turned my phone off and went back to work. 'Di mawala sa isip ko na sa bawat araw na lumilipas ay meron akong natatanggap na tangka.

Pinulot ko ulit ang papel at inilagay ito sa bulsa ko.

Mamaya kapag tulog na si Kei, aalis ako at pupunta ako sa pulis. Baka makatulong yung mga papel sa imbestigasyon nila nanay at tatay.

It's been an hour since I read the letter and kanina pa ako nakatulala wondering if it really was Luna behind these.

I shook my head. Hindi kayang gawin 'yon ni Luna. Mabuting tao si luna. Lubusan ko siyang nakilala noon but in a deeper part of my head, it says otherwise. I'm starting to think na baka si Luna nga ang mastermind.

May biglang kumatok kaya inayos ko ang sarili ko. "Pasok."

Pumasok ang secretary ko na si Mia. "Good afternoon, Mr. Maravilla. Mrs. Nicholson would like to meet you right now."

Tumango ako. "Let her in. Tyaka dala mo ba ang documents ni Mr. Ying at ni Mr. Melham?"

"Yes po sir. Naasikaso na po yung meeting and suggestions po nung meeting for branches in Australia and China."
