chapter 16

 I was preparing to meet Rosaline when Stefano barged into my apartment.

“A maid at home just called, and told me that mama has fainted and was rushed to an hospital” he said and the tie I had picked dropped from my hand.

“what? Mama fainted? What hospital?” I asked. We walked out of my apartment with Stefano leading the way

Stefano drove to the hospital in full speed. We got to the hospital and the housekeeper, Mrs. Valentina walked up to us

“where is she?” I asked,

“come with me” she replied as we followed her

We got to a room and she told us to go in, I stopped at the door, took a deep breath before sliding the door open

I saw my mama lying on the bed, with oxygen attached to her nose, and the only sound coming from the room was from the heart monitor

Stefano and I stood beside her bed and held her hands, she looked so fragile

I sat on the stool beside her and just focused on her breathing. I looked at Stefano he was looking at her before he took a deep breath

“I’ll go see the doctor” I said as I stood up leaving Stefano alone with mama

I got to the doctor’s office, and took a seat.

“Doctor, what’s the problem?” I asked calmly

“Mr. Alessandro, we ran a lot of test on your mother and she seemed fine, the only test we are waiting for is the chemistry test, there, we will be able to know some things like her sugar level”

“how long will it take?” I asked, but was interrupted by a knock on the door

“come in” the doctor said, and a male nurse walked in and handed a paper to the doctor, “from the lab” he said before going out

“From the test result in my hands, your mother is actually okay, except for her sugar level, which is very low. For someone with hypoglycemia…”

He was interrupted by the door opening to my father, “what is wrong with her John?” he asked, his tie loosed around his neck, he looked mad

“Sir…sir” the doctor stammered

“Speak up” my father said, reaching for something from his pocket, I believed to be a gun

I stood up immediately to intervene in the situation. “Let me deal with this” I said

“Deal with what? You are just a child” my father said

“She’s my mum”

“and she’s my wife”

I shook my head, “ child at twenty six?, Let me handle this” I tell him, and he took his seat

“continue doctor” I said before sitting down too

“Like I said, her sugar level has dropped, so right now we are administering glucose, she should be conscious in a few minutes or an hour time” the doctor said

Stefano barged into the room, “She’s awake”.

We jumped off the chair and hurried to her room

The doctors attended to her, as we all stood outside the room.

“Why are you dressed so fancy? Going anywhere son?” my father asked as it dawned on me, I had a date with Rosaline and I stood her up. I checked the time and it was 4:30pm already

I scratched my head as I thought of what to do. “I have to be somewhere” I told them before dashing into the elevator that took me to the garage

I had already taken the car keys from Stefano. I got into the car and drove to Rosaline’s, thinking of how I was going to apologize.
