Summary: After reaching the surface, Sans is ignored by Papyrus. When something happens to Sans, Papyrus regrets not spending time with his brother.

Suicide and self harm warning. Please choose another oneshot if you are triggered by these

This will be written in a poem-like fashion. I don't think it's a poem because I'm no poet. Enjoy.

Above ground

The monsters were set free, no longer trapped in a mountain

Life was going good for monsters

Humans accepted them

They were given rights

Everyone had a family

Every monster was happy

All but one

A singlular small monster, known for his lazy, easy-going nature

A monster by the name Sans

A mysterious one, yes

But very caring and 'humerus' skeleton

Despite showing a lack of motivation, the small skeleton visibly cared for the people in his life

Especially his younger brother

Papyrus

Papyrus wanted nothing more than to be wanted

Sans made him feel wanted

The duo were an odd pair, but lovable

However, nobody knew Sans's secrets

Huge secrets he kept to himself, not wanting to be more of a burden than he already thought he was

Experiments

Abuse

Murder

RESETS

It plagued him

However, he didn't say anything about the trauma, ignoring it instead

Upon reaching the surface, the first thing Sans did was nap in the sun

It disappointed everyone

It was as if Sans had already seen the surface

And the truth was, Sans had

Thousands of times, even

But this run in particular, really stuck

It impacted his life forever, even through RESETS

"Hey Pap, you wanna come with me to that new space museum?" He'd say

"Sorry brother, I promised to hang out with Undyne!" Papyrus would reply

"Oh.. Okay... Have fun..."

Sans had tried to hang out with his younger brother plenty of times

Each time Sans would get the same response

"I'm busy, sorry brother"

Sans didn't get it

What happened?

Did he do something wrong?

And there sat Sans

Blank sockets

Staring at nothing

Sometimes Papyrus would be gone for days

He never bothered to call or even text Sans
