AFTER THEIR LITTLE INCIDENT AT the convenient store, lauren and jaeden only got closer. lauren and lucas on the other hand? were drifting apart much faster than one could imagine.

a week after the events that went down in the last chapter, lauren and lucas found themselves sitting in lauren's room. finally getting some alone time with each other. it had been awhile since they had that, even their private messages were brief. they never face timed as much as they used to. there was obviously a rift in between them, everyone could see it.

despite them being in the same room and laying right next to each other, they weren't even talking. they were too busy doing other things.

"how was swimming?" lauren asked, trying to spark a conversation

"the usual. what did you do today?"

"i third wheeled. went to the mall with audrey and wyatt to buy audrey's mom a gift and god they were so clingy" the blonde snickered, playfully rolling her eyes before laughing heartily making lucas do the same

"you wanna come to the country club this weekend?" he offered, draping an arm over her shoulder before turning off his phone

"don't you have tennis with bella?"

"yeah but you can join? or you can bring the rest of them and drive around the golf course while waiting for us. i don't know, it's just been awhile since you and i went to the country club together" lucas rambled, tracing patterns on lauren's comforter

"i mean yeah we're busy." lauren replied briefly, resting her head on her boyfriend's shoulder before saying

"can you explain again — what exactly happened to jack?"

"car got hit by a semi"

"did he get a head ct?"

"yeah. but oh well, my parents, for once in their life, had dinner with me. they told me not to associate myself with him anymore. you probably already know why" the brunet informed her, shrugging nonchalantly

"yeah my parents did the same thing"

there was an awkward moment of silence between the couple who used to be able to talk about all sorts of things with each other. when they ran out of things to talk about they would make out, but they weren't really in the mood for that either.

thing were obviously different between the two, which confused them because neither of them did anything wrong (that the other knew of at least) there was just this awkward tension between them.

lauren, admittedly, knew that her eighth grade self would've been very disappointed in her. you finally get the guy you've been swooning over since you were thirteen and you two barely even last six months. trust me, lucas was great, probably the best boyfriend anyone could ask for, he was everything she thought he was when she was just crushing on him and more.
