Presenting.......

|Reminder|

Safiyah

I kick away some of Appa's white shedding. I pick a spot in our new campsite to set up my tent. I'm glad I kept my tent and sleeping bag I got from the ship Zen lent me. I wish there's a way to pay him back. I really do.

I start setting the tent flat and I kneel down to hammer the stakes in so I can keep the tent in place. But Sokka interrupts me. "Hey, let me help you!" He's holding another hammer in his hand.

I look up at him. "No, it's fine. You have other things to set up." It's true, Sokka still needs to set up his own tent and to remove the saddle off of Appa with Aang.

Sokka waves me off. "No, no it's okay. My tent'll be done later and Aang is okay without me." Then he calls out to Aang. "Right, Aang?"

"Actually Sokka, I do need some help-" Aang stops and I look at Sokka who's waving his hand across his neck, signalling at Aang to cut it out. Aang then turns to me and says. "Actually, Safiyah, I'm fine. Sokka can help you."

Sokka spins around and gives me an expression that says, "See, I told you."

I shrug at him since I'm not sure what to say and I pass him a couple of stakes. I continue digging one of the stakes in the earth, poking the tent fabric. I hear Sokka doing the same, contributing to the work in silence.

"You're acting weird," I say while looking at my hammering.

"What, me? How?"

"You just are."

"I appreciate the quality explanation." I laugh shortly. "Well, so are you."

I look up at him and he meets my eyes. "How am I acting weird?"

"You're a little closed off lately."

"No, I'm not." My words come out too firm, like I'm an ignorant person implementing a wrong belief on someone who's righter than me.

"I'm just saying."

"Okay, well I don't think I am." I move on to my second stake.

Sokka doesn't continue the conversation any further. When he finishes his side of the tent, he lets me know very cheerfully and continues to help me set the tent upright. When we finally finish, he casually moves on to what I need to do. I try waving off the whole situation that unfolded and I finish organizing my belongings inside the tent.

Minutes lag by and camp is finally all set up. Everyone lies down in their place of rest. I lie inside my sleeping bag, but I'm still sitting up. I'm still trying to sort out some stuff in my bag. I haven't really gotten the chance to transfer stuff from my old bag into my new bag. There are still some old clothes from the Northern Water Tribe that contrast with the Earth Kingdom clothes I've acquired.

I start getting irritated when I realize that the overload just makes my bag heavier. I start thinking about evening out the bags, like I did before, but child-like yelling comes from outside. I drop everything and exit my tent.

Sokka, Aang, and Katara are all gathered in a circle around Toph, who's kneeling on the ground. Toph relies heavily on her hearing since she doesn't have her sight. Due to the adaptation, her ears are really sensitive so she can sense something from miles away just by vibrations. That's how she earth bends. It's really fascinating, I can't lie.
