Carmen’s P.O.V

“Linx, are you still mad at me?” I asked him as tried to keep up with his long strides.

His green / blue eyes looked at me with an unknown meaning behind them. It was as if he was battling several emotions, and due to that he was emotionless. Linx’s lip closed into a fine line as he refused to reply to me.

“Please, Linx, forgive me for lying about you sister dating! I am truly sorry.”

Not even sparing me one single glance Linx kept walking. A few of his friends waved at him, but Linx ignored them and instead walked into an empty classroom. I followed him, for I felt he wanted to talk to me alone. My stomach twisted in fear that he was about to yell at me. I couldn’t bear the thought of him yelling at me, just like I couldn’t bear the mere idea that he was mad at me.

The door clicked behind me, indicating it was closed.

With his back to me, Linx huffed, and tossed off his backpack. Slowly, but surely, he turned around. “Why did you lie? You know that shit infuriates me.”

My mouth opened, but I closed it immediately.

“She’s my sister! The idea of her even dating someone makes me upset.”

I looked down at the floor, as sudden jealousy coursed through me. He cares so much for her ... I wish someone felt that way about me. I wish there was a guy out there, like Linx that would get all riled up at the single thought of another guy liking me. “I-I understand ... I’m sorry, Linx. But please ... please don’t ignore me and be mad!” I urged as my brown eyes met his. Pools of tears surrounded my vision.

Linx walked over to me and placed his hands on my shoulder. “Whoa there Car, what’s with the tears?” He asked innocently.

I shook my head and tried to wipe my eyes. “It’s just ... I don’t want you to be mad at me. You're ... You’re a ... good friend of mine and I don’t like it when you’re mad at me.”

Rubbing my shoulders Linx chuckled, “chill, I forgive you, Munchkin.”

“Munchkin?! I’m not a munchkin!” I shrieked.

He cocked his head back as laughter escaped his mouth. “Whatever you say, Munchkin.”

It was then that I knew Linx had a nickname for me, which he evidently wasn't going to let go of.

Sighing, I rolled my eyes and began to walk away.

“Hey! Come back Munchkin!”

I flipped him off and stalked off to first class, knowing Linx was hot on my tail.

“What?! Why am I the last one to be informed of this?” I asked. Alicia had just told me that she was related to Sapphire.

She shrugged her bony shoulders, “I dunno, but hey, now you know!” Alicia gave me a cheerful smile, as if it would make up for not informing me first.

Narrowing my eyes at her, I contemplated for a minute. “Wait, that means that we set up your brother with ... his cousin?!”

Alicia exhaled loudly, “yea ... they talked it over this morning though. It’s all cool, they’re back to friends and no awkwardness, fortunately.”

“Thank the-”

“Munchkin!” Linx called out as he walked across the lunch room towards me.

I jumped out of my chair and hid behind Alicia, as if she could shield me.

“What’s going on?!” Alicia hissed.

I growled, “The damn boy has been shouting Munchkin at me all day, he seems to think it’s my new name. In first class he made the teacher call me that while taking roll. I swear, I’m going to kill the damn boy.”

“Killing and kissing are two different things darling,” Alicia muttered.

“Where did Munchkin go?” Linx asked.

“Piss off,” Alicia backfired.

“Carmen, what are you doing behind Alicia?” Sapphire asked as she came over and took my seat.

I glared daggers at Sapphire and stood up, knowing that my cover was blown.

Linx looked at me with a wide smile. He sat down and patted the empty chair next to him. I ignored his attempt to get me to sit beside him and took a seat three chairs down from him. He winked at me and moved over next to me.

I was about to tell him that if he didn’t move, I’d cut off his head, but he pushed his food tray in front of me ... my weakness.

Gulping down a Mountain Dew, I heard an obnoxious voice: Aerie. She came over with a toothy grin and her claws basically digging in Blake’s arms. I looked at Sapphire to see that she was seconds from pouncing on the girl. Kicking Sapphire in the leg, I shook my head.

Aerie took a seat right next to me and Blake.

“So, Sapphire, Coach Wood was furious that you didn’t show up for tryouts in track yesterday. What was with your absence?” Aerie asked.

All eyes at the table flickered to Sapphire.

I wanted to hear the reason Sapphire skipped out on tryouts, since it was so not like her, but a husky voice blew in my ear.

“So, what are your plans for this weekend?” Linx’s asked me.

I swallowed loudly as his hot breath fanned my ear. “Uhhh, I-I...”

I didn’t have to look at Linx to know he was smirking.

“Nothing really ... I just have to go to that dance on Friday.”

“Oh, who you taking?”

His question made my heart skip a few beats. “Ummm, Peter Fiddler asked me to go ... I think with him.”

Linx placed his arm on the back of my chair. I could feel him scooting my seat closer to him. “I don’t think so.”

“Huh?” I asked facing him.

His eyes pierced me with heavy intensity. I felt the world around us shut down, and everything froze as he looked right into my eyes. “My date cancelled on me ... as payment for me buying you lunch a few days ago, and today, you are going as my date.”

I mentally wanted to facepalm myself for the fact I kinda thought ... maybe ... just maybe ... he wanted to go with me, because he liked me...

Sighing, I looked away...

“Will you be still?” I pleaded for the millionth time to Sapphire as she wiggled in her chair.

Her eye opened and gave me a death glare, which I shrugged off.

“You better listen to Carmen,” Alicia chimed in as she walked into the room. I looked at her and smiled.

“That dress looks amazing on you!” I stated as I gazed at Alicia. She smiled.

“Thanks, Silly, you picked it out,” she replied as her thin hands ran over the blue, glittery dress that went down to the floor.

“I know, that’s what makes it so perfect!” I joked and finished the last touches of makeup on Sapphire.

“Can you believe it’s Friday?” Alicia questioned as she walked over and picked up the lip gloss tube.

“No, I can’t. Can you believe that there is only one more week until Halloween and fall break?”

I groaned at Sapphire’s comment, “Don’t remind me! I haven’t even picked out my costume.”

“I have,” Sapphire said and as she slipped on a pair of black lace flats that matched her cocktail dress.

Both Alicia and I simultaneously gazed around the room, as if she had left out her costume.

Sapphire snickered, “you guys are a hoot. Trust me I remember our Halloween rule, no showing each other the costumes until the day of...”

A disappointed expression crossed Alicia’s face, “ugh, whatever ... Now, Carmen, go get your dress and get it on! The guys will be here any minute to get us!”

“Oh shit!” Sapphire bellowed out, making both of us look at her.

“What?” I asked.

“Blake! He’s taking me to the dance! Linx is going to be there! He will see us together and ... and ... OM to the G-G, Blake is a dead man walking! I completely forgot!” Her voice seeped into a panic.

“I thought you weren’t going to the dance with Blake because you were mad at him about not confessing his undying love for you.”

“I am mad at him for not telling me he likes me ... but ... I don’t know, I like the damn guy and he begged me to go to the dance with him, so I agreed ... but now I just am worried about Linx!”

Reaching over towards an open bag of chips I had placed on Alicia’s night stand I started to eat in nervousness.

Oh noooooooooooooooo ... Linx is going to really mad I lied about Sapphire not dating ... in return he will be mad at me ... damn!

Alicia ripped the bag from my hand and then turned to Sapphire, “calm down. This can be easily fixed.”

“How?!” Sapphire begged.

Alicia’s eyes, followed by Sapphire’s, flickered over in my direction.

“What?” I asked as a mischievous smile spread across Alicia’s face.

“It’s simple, you are going to distract Linx, all means possible so Blake and Sapphire can have a romantic time at the ball.”

“Romantic my ass, I think I might kill him before the night is over,” Sapphire spat.

“Oh, come on, who knows, maybe he is waiting to the midnight hour to tell you he loves you!” Alicia chirped.

I sighed and grabbed my bag from Alicia, knowing I would be the distraction...

***

“You’re eating, and you look like you swallowed a poisonous snake ... what are you hiding?” Linx asked me as I rested my empty plate on my yellow ball gown. I reached over and grabbed my drink from the table beside me and chugged the whole cup down, slowly. I was prolonging my answer, or shall I say my lie.

Once finished, I started to sway my head to the beat of the speakers. “Let’s dance!” I randomly requested.

“You hate dancing,” Linx told me in a monotone-like voice.

“Yep, and they spiked the punch, and a tipsy Carmen likes to dance!”

“I got you water,” Linx said with a curious expression.

Feeling myself slowly falling into a trap, I attempted to cross my legs.

“Munchkin, tell me, what is it that you are hiding,” he egged on.

My palms felt sweat ... Why?! Why did they make me do this?! They knew I get nervous too easily! I am like an open book, yet both Alicia and Sapphire practically forced me to distract Linx, which seemed impossible. I had no idea what to do in his company.

“Did you know cats can jump five times their tail length?” I inquired.

“No-”

“Dubstep music originated in London.”

“Cool, now tell me-”

“I love cats.”

“I know that, and you like tigers, white tigers! Now, Munchkin, what is it that Alicia, and most likely Sapphire have made you do, or told you.”

“It’s midnight in Paris!”

“Carmen Lynne Roberts! Stop!” Linx yelled.

I stood up and stomped my foot, “you can’t yell at me! I am you date! And you’re rude,” I lied and then stormed away.

My eyes anxiously danced around the room as I raced away from Linx. I was in an eye hunt for my two friends. Hoping they would help me get Linx off my case.

“Wow, Carmen, is that you?” I heard a guy ask as he stepped in front of me.

I blink and then noticed it was Robby, my ex. “Hey, Robby.”

“You look beautiful,” he slurred, and it was then that I noted he was drunk.

“Fuck off Robby,” a deep voice I knew to be Linx said from behind me.

Robby ruffled his red hair and chuckled. “Linx, my main man, what’s happenin’?”

“Go home Robby, you’re wasted,” Linx stated as he wrapped an arm around my waist.

Looking down at me with his brown eyes, Robby grinned. “Taken’ my sloppy seconds I see, Linx.”

The secure, tight hand looped around my waist dropped. I glanced at Linx, wondering why he let go of me.

I watched, almost in slow motion, Linx pull back his fist before crashing it into Robby’s face. “Don’t you ever! And I mean ever! Talk about my woman like that!”

My heart thumped so hard at the word my woman coming out of his mouth. I almost forgot to breathe, but then Linx gripped my hand tightly and pulled me away from the nose-bleeding, hunched-over Robby.

A smile twitched up on my lips. “Thank yo-” I was cut off my running into Linx’s back. “What-” looking around him, I saw why he stopped.

In the middle of the dance floor Blake and Sapphire were all but having sex.

Releasing my hand, his expression fell spiritless.

Where he held me, moments ago, felt cold. My stomach lurched as I realized he was growing angrier and angrier by the second.

“Linx,” I spoke, placing my hand on his shoulder, hoping to calm him down.

His, now dark, eyes looked at me. “You knew,” was all his said before disappearing into the crowds of the people. My hands reached out to stop him. All I could get a grip of was the cloth of his suit, and it slipped through my fingers like water.

Kyeire: *Sigh* :( Poor Carmen. Linx. :( I loved them so much.

KittyKat: You’re acting like they’ve died!

Kyeire: *jumps* Wah! When did you get here???

KittyKat: Right now, if you must know.

Kyeire: *looks around* Where’s Yo Monkey? We haven’t seen him since the beginning of this story!

KittyKat: *rolls eyes* ever since I had the babies, all he does is sit at home. Jeez, you’d think that he’d get tired of pampering them after so many months.

Kyeire: Is it safe to say you’ve tamed the monkey?

KittyKat: *sigh* No.
