The day of the surgery

Meredith and Derek dropped off their kids at school, afterwards they went to the hospital. Derek took 2 weeks off to take care of Meredith.

Addison had prepped a room for Meredith and she was waiting for them

"Hi Addison" Meredith and Derek said

"Hi guys, have you been able to sleep a little?

"Buah" Meredith said

"She didn't really sleep.. I woke up without the sound of snoring"

Addison led them in Meredith's room. 

"We would start in 2 hours, I'm gonna send someone to prep you, Miranda and I will come by once you're prepped" 

"Thanks"

"Derek do you want to fill in the papers?"

"Mer, is that okay?

"Yes, I'll get changed"

Derek and Addison went outside

"How is she? How did the kids react?"

"She's worried.. talking with Zola and Bailey went okay but Ellis started crying so Meredith took Ellis apart to talk.." He started " I tried to do the same with Mer.. I tell her I love her and we'll be fine"

"Good.. and hey Derek, I know we have been trough a lot but you're happy, I'm happy but I need you to know, if you ever want to talk, I'm here for the both of you!"

"Thanks Addie"

Derek went back inside Meredith's room

"You finished?" Derek asked

"Yep, watch my beautiful dress" She tried to make fun

"You look good in everything" and he kissed her on her forehead

After 2 hours Addison and Miranda walked in

"Meredith are you ready?" Miranda asked

"I think so"

"Derek, you know you have to wait in the waiting room? But you can walk with us to the OR" Addison said

"Thanks" 

Derek held Meredith's hand while they wheeled Meredith to the OR, he kissed her just before she went in the OR

He took off to wait in the waiting room and Alex joined him.

Yesterday they told the news to their colleagues because Meredith wouldn't work for a few months and people would notice so they decided to tell their friends before the hospital gossip would to their work

Every friend was paged 

Arizona, Callie, Addison, Miranda, Jackson, April, Owen, Jo, Alex, Maggy, Amelia, Link and Richard

They started asking why they were paged until Bailey asked everyone to be quiet and listen

"We have some bad news to tell you, Meredith, Derek would you like to tell them?" Miranda said

"I'm gonna be off for a while.."

Everyone started to ask questions instead of letting her speak

Meredith had tears in her eyes, from that moment everyone started to get quiet, Derek grabbed Meredith close to him. He had his arm around her waist and whispered she would be fine, and if she wanted he would finish for her

She nodded

So Derek started "A few days ago Mer had a check up with Addison" He looked at Addison and she was nodding and tears were almost streaming down her face.. Meredith and Addison became very good friends ever since Addison came back. They decided to leave the past behind. "And she discovered a lump in Mer's left breast. The tests showed she has stage 2 breast cancer with metastases in her left arm pit" Derek finished

Link was holding Amelia for emotional support, they were parents to a newborn baby, they were happy and now her sister in law had breast cancer? Meredith felt more like a sister than her own sister.

Richard didn't know how to react, he, Jackson and Maggy were comforting each other.

Arizona and Callie fixed their marriage a few years ago and they were shocked by this news, they have been trough so much together

Owen put his hand on Derek's shoulder

Alex, Jo, Addison and Miranda already knew what was happening, they weren't surprised by everyone's look. Everyone loves Meredith, She's been here for so long, she has survived so many things! She's a great surgeon, a great wife and a wonderful mother.

"So if you'll see me in a wheelchair or puking or bald don't worry" Meredith tried to joke but almost everyone had tears in their eyes and were frozen.. no one knew how to react.

Derek started hugging Meredith to let her feel comfortable, after 2 minutes they all started talking and suggested their help to them. 

AN // I just had minor surgery and I'm pretty tired so I'm happy I wrote it this afternoon. More cute MerDer on the way. I'll upload again tomorrow.
