"I don't feel good," I tell my mom.

"I don't care," she replied. She reached into my drawer and pulled out a bra and a pair of my period underwear (if you know what I mean.)

"Mom!" I exclaim, jumping up and ripping my undergarments from her grasp.

She crosses her arms. "So much for not feeling good."

"Look, mom, people don't like me. All I'm asking is one day off."

She shakes her head. "You have work to do. Ignore the people."

My eyes fill with tears. "I try, Mom. Please let me stay."

She shakes her head. "I said no. And that's final."

I feel my lip tremble, so I bite it. I point towards the door. "Go," I say, my voice cracking.

She shrugs and walks over to my doorway. "Okay, but you're going to school."

She closes the door and leaves. I try not to cry, but a few tears slip out. Why couldn't she just be there for me?

I grab black jeans, a red flannel, and combat boots. I was not going to school.
