n. a moment that seemed innocuous at the time but ended up marking a diversion into a strange new era of your life-set in motion not by a series of jolting epiphanies but by tiny imperceptible differences between one ordinary day and the next, until entire years of your memory can be compressed into a handful of indelible images-which prevents you from rewinding the past, but allows you to move forward without endless buffering. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "What happened in 1958?" Five asks softly, stripping out of his blazer and vest. He sits on the ground and takes off his shoes. I close my eyes as I think back to that year. "I don't know, Five." I answer honestly. I open my eyes, seeing him laying on the ground. I pat the spot next to me, inviting him to lay on the bed. I wait for him to lay down and turn over to face him. "I lost all of my family, who I'd just found after being in literal hell for years, I lost my boyfriend who I had been in love with since we were ten, and I lost my father, butler, and maid. I went crazy. I just needed to feel like I belonged. "I was here for two years without any of our siblings being here, and in those two years, I spent most of it in prison." I say, looking into his forest green eyes as his thumb traces patterns on my hand. "I didn't mean to kill the cop that got me sent to prison. I was just feeling numb and empty, I just wanted to see if maybe killing him, would help. But, it didn't. Instead I ended up in jail for five years and dragged my best friend along with me." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sequel to Monachopsis (Season 2- The Umbrella Academy)
