Losing someone is never easy. Especially if it's your best friend.

Being in love with that someone though, makes it even more complicated.

*

Harry and Elizabeth grew up together. They were best friends, each other's happy place. But 7 years is a long time, a lot has changed...

Harry is now living his dream, basking in the glory of his success. No matter how big he gets though, he could never forget where he came from. He could never forget those big blue eyes and the hearty laugh that he was once so fond of.

And Elizabeth... well, she grew up. She's not the naive little girl she was all those years ago anymore, she sees the world differently now. She does her best every day, trying to get into line and have a normal life like most of us. Running away from your past and building up walls can only work for so long though, and a certain curly headed rockstar might just be able to crumble them all down in an instant.

When their paths cross again, the darkness just becomes a tad bit brighter. They eventually fall back to same old habits, the memories clearer than ever and suddenly it all just makes perfect sense again.

Surely, someone will sweep her off her feet and put a ring on her finger in the next twelve years, it's inevitable with the type of person she is. Deep down he wants it to be him, but he wouldn't dare make a move that could ruin the strongest friendship he's had his entire life. Maddie finds herself smiling at Harry's idea, she loves it. It won't happen though, because some girl in the future is bound to fall in love with Harry and his kind heart, and he'll be head over heels for her too. The age of thirty is twelve years away for them, it's too obvious that nothing will come from this harmless bet. "Deal." "Really?" Harry raises his eyebrows, amused at her response. "Really." They shake hands just as the song comes to an end and another one begins. But Harry doesn't let go of Lainey's hand, instead he catches her off guard by spinning her under his arm and dipping her. As a thirty two year old fan of Harry Styles, Cassie is used to the eye rolls and groans whenever she mentions his name. What they don't know is that this man has saved her life. When she's drowning in her own mind, it's his voice that brings her back to the surface. After sending a letter that she almost immediately regrets, Cassie assumes it's ended up in the wrong hands but when she forms an unlikely friendship with a stranger, Cassie's life starts to change. Time after time she is reminded of what the people closest to her, think of her. If only there was someone who could help her realise her true self-worth. A love story of a different kind. * * * * * * * * Excerpt: "I didn't mean it! Please believe me. Please don't leave" I plead with everything in me, she can't fucking leave, not like this. Still with my hands on her shoulders while standing behind her, I feel them slump as she sighs. Slowly she starts to turn towards me, all the while looking down at the floor with her hair hanging down around her face so that I can't see it. "Please, stay" I whisper, squeezing her shoulders softly. "Please."
