A short story for Aim To Engage II- fantasy prompt

For years our relationship has been little warmer than the ice pack I study, yet her words crawl under my skin. I hide the sting of them beneath a shrug. "The evidence is impossible to ignore."
"To bad you can't spell them into listening."
I return to packing the items I need for my talk. "Magic is inaccessible to humans; only plants are affected by it." I can't stop from adding, "Not everyone finds my lectures as ineffective as you, Daughter."
