Kai, Nya and Lloyd have... an interesting home life, to say the least. Their parents, Maya and Ray, are world travelling scientists pushing for the next major breakthrough in oceanic discoveries, and with their legacy overshadowing their children, expect only the best of the kids they had "raised." Kai, the eldest, was forced to step up for his siblings at a young age during his parent's frequent "business trips," sacrificing most of his early adolescence in an attempt to preserve what little remained of his brother and sister's childhood. With their parents largely out of the picture, the Smith children make friends, build relationships, and begin to thrive without the oppressive weight of Maya and Ray's impossible expectations and crippling absence. Sure, things are imperfect, and some parts of their lives loom over their heads like storm clouds, but what they have is theirs, untouchable and wholly their own. Until one day it all falls apart. Three years later, Kai is finishing up high school when his parents decide to show up again- this time for good. As the drama of the healing family's lives build up, someone begins to quake from the pressure. Will they be able to keep their secret? Will old connections be reforged? Will they finally be a family again, after so many years of distance and bitterness? And most of all, what will happen when the chips come down? Read on to find out! (Or don't, I don't mind, so you do you honey) Main ship will be Lava (Cole x Kai). There will be Jaya, and maybe others but don't count of it. With that said, this is a ninjago fanfiction focusing on lava and the RGB siblings, with a decent amount of Kai/RGB familial angst(?), so please read at your own risk. When she discovers him hiding away in his radio tower, she immediately rushes to his side, determined to help him heal and give him a safe space to be vulnerable. (I had this idea BEFORE seeing a bunch of fanart about it, so I'm trying to be as original as possible.) (Also, this depicts Alastor and Rosie in a sort of queerplatonic relationship. I used to love fanfiction, reading and writing it- but mostly reading it. Though I love to write, most of what I write is not fanfiction, and it tends to feel too real, like I'm writing it with the goal of publishing it one day. While that would be nice to eventually have a story published, having that in mind makes the writing feel more constraining, less free. As I have begun, now, to reenter the world of fanfic that I used to love, I would like to try writing more of it. This will likely be a book of oneshots, unless one of the stories develops into something further.
