In the haze of Prohibition-era Chicago, everyone knows the name Max Moretti, the charming bootlegger who moves whiskey like water and vanishes like smoke. But no one knows the truth. Because Max is really Maxine Moretti ,a woman hidden behind a fedora, running her family's empire in a world that would destroy her if it ever found out. Then Evelyn Rossi walks in, a bold, sharp-tongued speakeasy owner with eyes that see too much. Their business starts with liquor, but every stolen glance tastes more like danger. In a city built on secrets, Max finds herself slipping - caught between the empire she's sworn to protect and the woman who makes her want to burn it all down. Because love and lies can't coexist forever. And when the smoke clears, even a ghost has to face what's real.

It's 1922. Prohibition started roughly over two years ago, and alcohol consumption is at an all time high. To those who wanted to make a decent buck, that was the route you needed to take. Lavinia "Vinnie" Lawrence was, for the most part, book-smart. Like her ma always said, she could've done great things if they just had the money to send her away. But they didn't, and now her ma's been dead for nearly a decade. Queue Allen de Luca--bootlegger and gangster extraordinaire who saved Vinnie from an assailant on his territory. He's got a knack for crime and has never believed that women should be at the brunt of any man's qualms. When their lives intercept, things change both for Vinnie and Allen in ways they didn't believe could happen. In a story filled with prohibition, criminal activity, and finding love in the shadiest of places, the two find themselves completely and utterly enamored with another. The more Vinnie sticks around Allen, the more her life changes... for better or for worse.

"Brandy for the Parson, Baccy for the Clerk" is a quotation from Rudyard Kipling's "A Smuggler's Song", a description of the over-romanticised smuggling communities of the 19th century. In my tale Coastguard John Hinkley is stationed at a remote location on the north east coast of England where smugglers and coastguard officers trade with cutlasses and muskets. When a dead body is found John must seek out the perpetrators, and his investigation brings him up against unexpected adversaries. The Admiralty's Revenue Men, ruthless smugglers, informants and corruption, even the Dignitaries and Nobility are brought together in this story which takes much from the reality of the time. This story will be published in Chapters. The date of the release of each new chapter will be noted at the end of the last currently available Chapter.

Through the death and destruction of World War I, a French sea captain made a small fortune. With a heavy conscience, Gustav Lefevre flees war-torn France to start a new life in Haiti. During Prohibition in the U.S., Captain Lefevre and his strange crew amass a second fortune.
